Yup. been to a couple of these. One of them started out as a "Students for Concealed Carry" meet, but everybody brought out their NFA stuff and it turned into a MG social. Nobody complained though.

I let people try out my suppressed Ruger 22/45, Others were sharing their SBS Saiga 12's, we had a Thompson, two Reising Subguns, (I got to shoot one.) a suppressed MAC and a bunch of other NFA stuff.

After the spring flooding is done we were going to try and have another. I have my 20 gauge AOW and a few more suppressors now to bring out.

People should really go out to these. It's a great way to meet people and share the hobby with others.

FTFA:

The fundraiser starts at 6:30 p.m. at Shooters Express, 2 Caldwell Dr. in Belmont. It runs to 9 p.m. or "until the ammo runs out." Cost is $25 per magazine. MP-5s and M-16s will be available.

Cool...it's cheaper than going to The Gun Store in Vegas.

/Love going there when I make it down to Sin City.
//Spend more $$$$ there than I do at Spearmint Rhino.

Then again, it does keep me from blowing $15k-$20k on that Tommy gun I've always wanted.

/maybe someday the Hughes amendment will be repealed and a good Tommy will cost less than a car.

I shot one for the first time back in May, and the barrel rose up more that I would have expected.

Sounds like fun, though I would probably never vote for this person. Democrat gun owner.

For $25 seems like a awesome price too. The Gun Store in vegas here is rather expensive per mag on a 9mm weapon like a Mp5. Its hilarious enough to go and see people charged extra because they blow a clip and have no control of their weapon and end up shooting the ceiling.

I've shot a Tommy gun twice, both times at one of John Ross' shoots. Heck of a lot of fun. I also shot a suppressed Uzi (kind of freaky without any noise) and a Glock 18 (talk about muzzle climb!). Unfortunately the 1918 BAR was out of commission that day.

I've seen some decent ones for $11k.

You might be able to find an pre86 m-16 lower for less than that and get a new upper from a site like ar15performance or something. Probably would be a better buy for around that price. I have not seen too many quality Thompsons around. Plus IIRC they shoot 45 where with an AR .223 or you can even make one use 7.62x39 and buy surplus and just go apeshiat.

Compare the prices:
http://www.ammoengine.com/find/ammo/.45_ACP
http://www.ammoengine.com/find/ammo/.223_Remington_5.56x45mm

IMO if you want a full auto i wouldn't buy a thompson unless you absolutely MUST have one.

It's fun, but if the range instructor gives me a set of rules/policies, I'm going to listen. Back in '05, we were there for a bachelor party, and one of the instructors was a little pissed off after the bachelor squeezed off an entire magazine from an Uzi.

So we know that you can handle an automatic firearm, but what about all those idiots who show up to the range thinking they know how to shoot by watching movies.

Side note:

However, I didn't like the fact that they hang the Bin Laden targets upside down, and tell me to aim for the head. (To compensate for muzzle climb.)

I understand why they do it, I just wish I was exempt because I've been there a few times.

This is why I ask for a $50 donation when people come out to shoot with me and my family.... $50 barely covers a few belts of 8mm, let alone food and magazines for everything else.

I'm curious....what is the going rate for ammo at the local gun store? What does a box of no-frills 9mm or 5.56mm shells go for?

I buy all of mine online, try these sites to help:

http://www.ammoengine.com/find/ammo/.223_Remington_5.56x45mm
http://gun-deals.com/

Somtimes ammo carried by these sites are not listed on there. Like I know sportmansguide had EXTREMELY inexpensive pakistani suplus 9mm (corrosive obviously, so get windex) that may not be listed here. I buy from that site and cheaperthandirt often both are quick delivery and reliable.

I usually find at actual stores its not only more expensive but they put tax on top of that. On these stores you pay shipping, sure, but its still less expensive more often than not. You really have to go out and look and see what your local stores are charging.

Good lord, you people are like Dirty Harry. If you need to defend your home, lock your bedroom door and call the police, that's what civilized people do. What are you going to do, come out with your "tech-9" or whatever and machine gun the person to death? And you don't need that to hunt, you need one gun maximum, maybe two if you can prove you hunt two different types of animals, like deer and birds.

And tell me why registering your guns with the government is such a bad thing, after all, then if they were stolen, you might even get them back. Unless you plan to shoot at the police with them? As far as I'm concerned, there's no reason why guns other than a few registered long guns shouldn't be outlawed entirely in this country. Maybe then we wouldn't hear about 50 shootings a week (including people's kids killing themselves by accident). Crazy and sick.

What I dont get about people like NSA is that countries like Switzerland has a full auto firearm in practically every house due to the militia laws and it is considered to be the safest country in europe.

In Norway, which has one of the largest percentages of gun ownership in the world due to the popularity of sport shooting, it is similar.

Reality is different than his interpretation of it.

America has MUCH higher crime rates than these nations in general, not even involving guns. Might as well ban all other activities related to death, like owning a car since that is the #1 killer.

Pretty much the opposite, really. It means a supressor that uses water, oil, or grease to help trap and cool the expanding gases. It makes the gun much quieter, but the wipes slow the bullet and can wear out fairly quickly. It can also be a bit messy, and needs to have the wet portion refilled.

It means some kind of liquid (usually water, oil, or light grease) can be put inside the suppressor to increase its effectiveness.

When the gun fires, a portion of the liquid is vaporized by the hot gasses escaping from the muzzle. The vaporization cools the gasses and reduces their volume. A smaller volume of gas escaping from the end of the suppressor is less noisy.

Not sure what that's supposed to mean. A "clip" is a clip, and a "magazine" is a magazine. The words are not interchangeable.

When I hear people call a magazine a clip, it always reminds me of that Simpson's episode where Mr. Burn's refers to the gas pedal in his car as the "velocitator".

You can squirt the liquid in through the hole in the front or back of the suppressor. No extra port is necessary or desirable.

It needs to be rewetted pretty often in my experience. Maybe once per magazine if you really want to keep it as quiet as possible.

It is messy. I got a nice Breakfree CLP bukake from it.

It's highly variable depending on how much you buy, what brand/quality level, and where you buy.

A typical purchase would be $15-20 per box of 20 rounds of 5.56mm or 50 rounds of 9mm, brass cased domestic FMJ.

Dude, you're beaing a little pedantic. I agree with you in principle, but at the same time you know they are talking about. Correct gently, and move on.

Yeah, agreed. As much as I lurve proper term usage, I think that one's a lost cause. Much like "silencer" and "suppressor". "Assault rifle", though, is worth fighting for, simply because too many folks (ab)use it for political purposes and FUD.

The military version did away with the Cutts compensator and the Blish lock (turning it into a straight blowback weapon which increased the recoil) and the vertical fore-grip - all three changes contributing to the lack of vertical control.

The 1928 civilian version is quite controllable - try one if you ever get a chance.

Speaking of being pedantic, does anyone think this guy might lose votes because he's calling an assault rifle and a submachine gun "machine guns"? If it were a Democrat, people might at least thing that he's trying to reach out and give him a pity vote or two, but you'd think a Republican from North Carolina should know better.

/If I were going to a "machine gun" event I would expect at least an M249.

No thats just a California legal stock painted pink. www.riflegear.com I auction a real DPMS Pink AR off every year for Breast Cancer, very Popular. Not for use in Kommifornia.

Having that funky stock allows her to get away with the 30 round Magazine. otherwise she would have to have a "fixed" 10 rd magazine. Loading those is a PITA.

If you want to stop by The Gun Store in Vegas, be sure to print off the $5 off coupon from their website.

/But that $5 will seem like a drop in the bucket with the amount of money you're going to spend.

This is why I ask for a $50 donation when people come out to shoot with me and my family.... $50 barely covers a few belts of 8mm, let alone food and magazines for everything else.

Fish in a Barrel:

I've shot a Tommy gun twice, both times at one of John Ross' shoots. Heck of a lot of fun. I also shot a suppressed Uzi (kind of freaky without any noise) and a Glock 18 (talk about muzzle climb!). Unfortunately the 1918 BAR was out of commission that day.

Tell your .500 magnum story. I was there for that one. :)

Hey, now you can tell people you got hit right in the forehead with a .500 Mag and it barely broke the skin. No need to clarify that it was the gun, not the bullet. And somehow you get a little woozy around those strange glowing green rocks...

OMG! This sounds like such a fun event to go to. At first I was balking at the $25 a clip until I saw MP5 and M-16. Mt favorite gun I've shot so far is a 9mm Uzi. I'm sad the gun range you can go to outside of Reno was told that you can't shoot flame throwers anymore.

As for the Hello Kitty AR-15, it's real. My friend has a purple AK-47 with some Malificent graphics on it. (From the factory.)

I don't like guns, and don't like being around them. I fired a 9mm pistol once in my life and it scared the crap out of me.

But I really don't see the point in too much gun control. Criminals will always get their guns, and naturally, criminals don't follow gun laws. I have family and friends who own guns and they seem quite normal. They have a lot of respect for their firearms.

Gun ownership should require training and a license, but beyond that it just annoys people for no benefit. I don't care if you go out somewhere to have fun shooting targets, or keep some in your house for defense. Just be safe about it.

Do you feel the same way about voting? Requiring people to get training and a license to vote? If not, why not?

nope. im one too. you can get an AR15 in CA, you just have to neuter it a little. Secure the mag with a pin so you cant swap mags, keep it at a 10rd cap, youre gtg.

i prefer the old school Curious and Relic classified guns. Basically 1950s and older.

If you get the C&R license, you can actually get guns delivered in the mail. I just love that.

The German MG-42 used the standard (I think 7.92x57m?) KAR round in belts. It is more commonly referred to as "8mm Mauser".

No Such Agency: Good lord, you people are like Dirty Harry.

Read this article... highly suggest you read the whole thing, but at least the "Final Steps" part.

Note to Self: Don't let Fish in a Barrel shoot my 20 gauge AOW (AKA: Mjöllnir). That thing will cause serious injury on both ends if you don't know what you are doing.
