In the US at least there is a bizarre thinking that this is a church matter... that the bureaucracy can/should handle it rather than the law.

The pope apologized, shouldn't that settle it?

He also appealed to priests still harbouring sins of child molestation to confess.

PS It's altar boys, not choir boys.

Where are the prosecutors? Put these assholes in prison.

funny, isn't that the same thinking that allows Sharia to take a foothold in some Western countries?

this. and, really, isn't the fact that we're all reading the umpteenth story like this proof that the church bureaucracy has just been facilitating it all along?

Good point. One of the selection criteria for picking altar boys these days has gotta be finding those who won't sing.

I bet the choir boys are better hummers

I'll hold off judgement until some actual proof is found.

Why isn't the Catholic church being charged with criminal conspiracy in relation to all these abuse scandals. Seems to me it would be pretty easy to prove that the higher-ups knew it was going on, and deliberately covered it up. Mens rea and actus reus.

It's really choir boys: the Regensburger Domspatzen. Ratzinger's brother was director of this group.

I read that as German pubes. Strangely appropriate, though.

I think this is why christians hate gays. They don't want the competition. They want all the young boys for themselves.

Actually, for the diocese of Regensburg, a lot of the accusations ARE from former choir boys - members of the choir lead by Georg Ratzinger for umpteen years. The pope's brother claims not to have known about what was going on at the boarding schools that the choir gets its members from.

SaintRussell: I need to get my eyes checked - pity I can't understand German well enough to get a really good prescription around here!

I really missed out in life. When I was younger, I should have been a catholic altar/choir boy, a congress page, a vulnerable member of cub/boy scouts, and a student at a private all boys religious school.

Am I missing any?

That's some headline funny, right there.

When is the current Pope gonna be charged of sexual abuse? His brother already has been busted for molesting little boys. I'm waiting for the Pope to be next.

citation needed on the brother actually being busted for being part of it.
