INVOKE THE DEAD KENNEDY

2010-03-21 02:28:23 PM
bareknucklejones: I am watching CSPAN right now Paul Ryan (R. Wisc) is talking about how much debt this bill will cause, and how we can't afford it. I doubt highly he was saying "we can't afford the war in Iraq." It is sick to me that we can afford massive MASSIVE amounts of money for defense contractors, but we can't afford to take care of our own citizens.
Politicians aren't just traitors to this country, they are traitors to the human race.

Rep. Paul Ryan, the man with the graphs, voted FOR the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Act which added literally over a trillio dollars to the debt. Please remember that as he lectures us.

Whoa, he must go to Donald Trump's hairdresser.

I also think he sounds like Katherine Hepburn when he speaks.

"For what purpose does the gentleman from Farkistan rise?"

"Mr. Speaker, I request to be recognized for as much time as the Speaker will allow."

"The gentlemen will be recognized."

"Mr. Speaker, may I make a parliamentary inquiry?"

"The gentlemen requests a parliamentary inquiry. The Speaker recognizes the gentleman."

"Thank you, Mr. Speaker. May I kindly request the Speaker to tell the gentleman from Wisconsin to shut the fark up?"

"The Speaker will request that the gentleman from Wisconsin shuts the fark up. The gentleman from Farkistan may continue."

"Mr. Speaker, I yield the remainder of my time and recognize that the House is not in order."

"The gentleman is correct. The House will be in order." (*GAVEL!*)

Where in the bill is government taking over the 'industry'? Hospitals will still be privately owned, doctors will not be government employees. This is just figuring out a way to pay for the mess that privately owned healthcare providers created by concentrating on shareholders and not on those needing care.

Unfortunately, no one is going to point out this glaring fact to him to his face right now, which is what is desperately needed.

All the while, my girlfriend is narrating a TV show (via text messages) about actors in white jumpsuits acting out a sperm's perilous journey to a woman's egg.

A half a trillion here, a half a trillion there. Pretty soon we're talking real money.

Could it be that Democrats have finally learned to stop alienating their base by pandering to people who would sooner step on their face than look at them?

I won't believe it 'til the votes are counted.

2010-03-21 02:31:07 PM
yeah, martin luther king jr was talking about black people not getting the same coverage as white people.

i hardly think that is similar.

make me some tea: You know, I keep hearing that this bill is completely "unfunded." They're still debating this as if there were a public option. Where does this cost the government so much money? We're still paying our premiums to private insurance firms, are we not?

It increases a few taxes to establish funds to help low income citizens pay for health insurance when it becomes mandatory in 2014.
It also expanded the poverty marks of qualifying for medicare starting next year.

2010-03-21 02:31:25 PM
Somacandra: If this guy wants to cut the size of Washington's influence, he should radically scale back a worldwide military imperial presence. That costs more than anything else the Feds do.

That's a lie.

Yeah. Totally not similar to poor people not getting fair coverage compared to rich people. Totally different.

Lost Thought 00: And today my Congressman will sign his political death warrant.

By voting against this bill.

Agreed. In 2008, Sarah Palin's speech at the Republican National Convention spurred me to donate money to a political campaign for the first time, and to register voters. Turned out, this wasn't an isolated incident and resulted, indirectly, in a landslide presidential election win for Obama.

In 2010, my rep's no vote on health reform will spur me to actively work on behalf of whoever his Democratic opponent turns out to be, another thing I have never done before.

Quite possibly this won't be an isolated incident either.

Looks like I read bad info. Over a 10 year window, you look to be right, it's more like $600B.

Much better.
