By passing a bill that makes America a better place, Democrats are clearly committing suicide. Duh.

That is just the type of misguided statement I would expect from a liter.

"What you had out there yesterday were a handful of people who just got stupid and, and said very ignorant things," said Steele. "And neither party, I believe, are associated--or should be associated with that."

The racists and gay-bashers are all Republicans, Mike. They always are.

Umokay: I heard on NPR the other day that although this new bill will keep Insurance companies from denying actual policies to people, which is one of the main selling points of this bill by the democrats, that they are still free to deny treatments of anything they choose, whenever they want. So in the end, and this is an honest question, what makes this bill better?

And another thing. My sister and brother in law are really healthy, take care of themselves, and pay out of their pocket each year for a physical for each. It ends up being about 400 bucks per physical in the end after labs, but they don't have typical health insurance. They have cheap catastrophic health insurance with a high deductible, but no "regular" insurance. And they save tons of money and don't burden the system at all. Will their catastrophic insurance fulfill the mandate for purchase? If not, why? when they are being responsible, healthy adults, and buy very cheap tragedy insurance, why should they start having to pay more for normal health insurance? Again, maybe they won't. Someone who knows please answer these questions for me.

/sincere

Your sister's coverage will not be allowed. They must chip in to pay for all the sick and poor people currently not insured. They will be paying a lot more in HC insurance costs in the next few years. The bill contains qualifying coverage for any policy someone wants to buy. This means the young/healthy can no longer buy the catastrophic insurance policies and use HSAs for everything else. Freedom to choose will become freedom to choose what the government wants you to choose.

I see it the same way I see Medicare or Social Security -- part of what they'll pay for will be the older less-healthy folks. And when THEY'RE old and need more medical care, the generations below them will help cover them, and so on.

Hender: Boehner's already making noise about repealing the bill "when" the Republicans take control of Congress later this year, which tells me A) Republicans will have something to continue to get worked up about after today, and B) John Boehner doesn't really understand how the legislative process works, what with the President needing to sign stuff and all.

Absolutely, mind-bendingly, ridiculous.

Hender: when did C-SPAN start taking calls?

They generally take calls every time there's a vote or some other lull in the legislative action.

Have they leaned on "__% of Americans don't want this bill" yet, or am I early?

Or, you could roll doubles. They Republicans should suggest that amendment. It would be the only hope for some people.

I'm pretty sure that slapping noise is the Dems balls on the Conservatives backside.

So the Democrats are teabagging the Conservatives?

Oddly enough, I got hold of my actual Congrescritter. He tried so hard to push his talking points and I knocked them down. He wrapped it up pretty quick after I mentioned the farking constitution was passed with the understanding it'd be fixed with that pesky Bill of Rights.

Now who can argue with that? I think we're all indebted to that last caller for stating what needed to be said. I am particularly glad that these lovely children are here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic Arkansas gibberish, it expressed the courage little seen in this day and age.

It's part of an ongoing effort by the Library of Congress to archive long forgotten American accents.
