DamnYankees: Hender: I'm represented by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Sen. Jeff Merkley and Sen. Ron Wyden. I didn't both to even look up they plan to vote because I know already they're all a yes vote. My Congressional representation is nothing if not predictable.

Same for me. Every single one of my Congresspeople is voting no. I can't change their minds, my district is so ridiculously red.

I hope Earl Blumenauer stays in office forever. He's so much fun.

Hey, he's speaking right now and rocking his bow tie. Awesome.

It is amazing how reasonable some of the Republicans appear right now that they are so close to losing.

That was sarcasm, right?

2010-03-21 01:16:18 PM
Well, at least Mr. Murphy is trying to sound reasonable.

Weaver95: he said that first they'd try to block it, then it would fail and they'd shift to being the ones who write the rules on reform. In the end, he didn't expect them to make any major concessions. He said they would never permit any sort of 'public option' and that they'd make minor concessions over 'independent claims review' but largely the industry would continue on as before.

Ah okay. Yeah, my old boss said basically the same thing when I asked him about it around April of last year. He has over 20 years in the health insurance biz, used to work for Prudential back in the day and has been running a TPA for a good 15 years.

He said there would be a bill passed, there won't be any drastic changes, just a few disruptions in the industry here and there, and everything will adjust out into a new status quo. No big deal, really.

MorrisBird: Damn Yankees

Your nephew is the child of a Congressperson?

No, he's her chief of staff.

Can you say who the Congressperson is?

2010-03-21 01:16:36 PM
Weaver95: thesilence: DamnYankees: Haha. I'm loving this lady. Who is she?

Ah, Sheila Jackson Lee.

Wasnt she that chick that answered her cell phone and ignored a constitutes questions during a town hall meeting?

I think so, but i'm not sure.

Just utilized the Google machine. Thats her alright.

Bow tie AND a bike pin. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Earl Blumenauer, Congressional representative for Portland, OR.

Racht: Is it just me, or does the American flag hanging behind the podium have dots instead of stars?

It is symbolic on the infringement on State rights. Also, if you look closely, the gavel looks more like a sickle.

Hey it's Louis Gohmert! One of the craziest people in Congress. I'm excited for this one.

He's a strong proponent of biking. He bikes to his office in DC most days.

I hope not.

Stupak is voting yes according to MSNBC. Looks like the executive order deal went through.

Put a fork in it, it's done.

DamnYankees: I would highly doubt it. No Congressperson has been killed since the Jim Jones cult incident.

It's not the craziness of the statement that causes doubt, its the fact that no one has been killed since 1978.

C-SPAN. Earl Blumenauer was speaking and was wearing his usual bow tie and had a big pin in the shape of a bike.

some of the teabaggers are certified nutballs, but I just don't see them actually becoming violent over this.

I could see them chaining themselves to a monument somewhere or something though.

"Government tyranny"? What tyranny, asshat?

Ok I have a feeling a drinking game today will be quite detrimental to my health. Ted Poe here would knock me over the edge himself

Stupak's on board with the vote.

I wonder how many Republicans are gonna take the Budd Dwyer way out if this passes.

... does the GOP actually *have* anything? Is this really how they want to blow their speeches?

My Congressman (Lloyd Doggett, D-TX) was reported as being undecided as recently as yesterday. Although I don't know exactly what's in his mind, given his voting record I'm pretty sure he has the same reservations I do -- mandating that individuals buy health insurance without giving them a public option amounts to a giveaway to health insurance companies. This isn't half a loaf. The Dems started at half a loaf, now we've got crumbs.

When I checked the campaign voicemail last night, there was a message from a male with a southern accent (he didnt leave a name or phone number) who said in a threatening way that he wanted us to know that there is a hit team of snipers that are rated from a mile away and he understands they will be assassinating the children of Congressmen who vote for this bill. Then he hung up.

Protip: nobody who claims to know anything about snipers in any anonymous forum or medium knows anything about snipers.

Your caller sounds white, male, middle-aged, Southern, ignorant, conservative, racist, powerless, completely full of shiat, butthurt, and fat.

Yeah, but then you'd be qualified for the Senate.

2010-03-21 01:22:36 PM
so are we getting healthcare reform or not today?

2010-03-21 01:22:41 PM
A woman called into C-SPAN earlier to state her opposition to the HCR bill, explaining that she was on Medicare and that her husband was unable to get insurance coverage due to a "pre-existing condition," and that Medicaid would not cover them. She was afraid of no longer receiving Medicare and paying higher premiums to private insurers if this bill passed. The C-SPAN reporters, bewildered by her comments, tried in vain to assist...

____________________________________________

C-SPAN: Well, actually, Medicare would be expanded under this bill and language is included that prohibits insurance companies from denying coverage for "pre-existing conditions."

CALLER: (Stunned silence.) Uh..you know what, we don't need government-run health care!

C-SPAN: But...you're on Medicaid.

CALLER: I'm not on Medicaid, I'm on Medicare! There's a difference!

C-SPAN: Okay, but do you see how expanded coverage would help you and your husband? I would think that would be something you are in favor of.

Caller, hello?

Okay, apparently she's already gone.

____________________________________________

The C-SPAN reporters were trying to help her understand how health care reform would help her, but she was unwilling to listen and hung up the phone. When confronted with facts and being called out for her ignorance, she chose to not hear any of it. It's very sad how some of the people that will benefit from this the most are content to be used as mouthpieces by the insurance companies and lie-spewing pundits and politicians.
