imapirate: I couldn't find the graphic, but the other day, the leading story on Fox "News" was a picture of the Constitution and the American flag with the slug "DOES THIS EVEN MATTER ANYMORE?"

Sometimes I wonder if Fox News is run by goldfish with attention spans of less than 2 seconds.

That would be an improvement.

imapirate: FoxNews.com: "John Boehner says health bill is 'Armageddon.'" Really? Imposing regulations on insurance companies will cause the demise of America?

That shiat is beyond the pale.

If it truly is Armageddon, then any upstanding American would stop at nothing to stop it, right?

I mean, if it means the end of America, why would anyone fault anyone for breaking little rules like the ones we have against assassination and murder?

GOP: THIS IS A SICKNESS.

Not "Progressivism", not "Liberalism", but your own complete and utter moral bankruptcy.

Are you saying that, despite having been able to deduct health insurance premiums as an adjustment to income (no Sch A required), you still couldn't earn enough as an independent contractor to afford a basic health insurance policy? Yikes.

Nope. The House isn't even in session until 1 pm, and then it will be hours of speeches with nothing but the usual talking points. All the news is being made behind the scenes right now.

IMO, Mike Pence is the dumbest person in Congress. I don't mean that as an insult, really. Someone of the 535 has to have the lowest intelligence. And he's it.

Over 50% of this nation's inhabitants are already covered by government-run or government-financed health care (Tri-Care, VA, Medicare, Medicaid, federal employees, etc.). That fact seems to have escaped the notice of anyone referencing a "government takeover".

I worked there between 18 and 22, and getting paid $10/hr, so no. I could barely pay my rent without roommates, and my folks still paid my auto insurance at the time.

Actually, pretty much everyone is covered by government financed health care. The government subsidizes all employee-provided health care to the tune of $250B per year.

crap. i'm at work minding a mainframe database test and can only check in from time to time.

I'll try to keep an eye on this thread though, but sadly my commentary will be fairly limited. to answer previous questions though, yes - it looks like this bill will pass. it'll be close, but it should make it through.

For good or ill, it should get 'r done today.

It's basically an 80s action movie updated for 2010...farking Chi McBride and Rorschach, dude!

I wasn't sure at first and waited for a while before checking it out, but then I watched all 8 episodes in 2 days. Thank G-d for DVRs.

Fortunately for me, yesterday was 72 and sunny and I was at the beach all day, and today it's rainy and cold.

My friends coming over to watch the games are going to be pissed when I keep switching back and forth with CSPAN.

for better or worse, I still keep in touch with a lot of Dad's lobbyist contacts. in fact, one of his old lobbyist buddies is taking me to dinner next week. smart lady, VERY dialed in to what's going on inside the beltway. I fully intend to pick her brains over the results of this vote.

Ezra Klein says house leadership aiming to have actual vote on HCR at 9 p.m. tonight. Many sources are saying that 2 of the Stupak vote would be yes's with or without the executive order. Other sources are saying that since Sanchez has been located and looks like a yes, might not need Stupak.
-------------------
Luke Russert is reporting via mobile on Twitter that the Stupak 8 are meeting as we speak with the White House attorneys to finalize the language on the executive order regarding HCR and abortion.

There is to be an announcement at 12:30 p.m. EST.

He also says that the Stupak 8 would put the number at 222.

Russert's been updating hourly since about 6 a.m. EST at Twitter.

Typically, "independent contractor" is associated with a bootstrappy journeyman type who commands a decent wage. Not someone who - at the apex of earnings - could barely eat and pay rent. That sounds like a boss who should've gotten into some hot water with the IRS for treating employees like ICs.
