CNN had a breaking news banner saying that the Dems had the 216 votes they need, but it's gone now.

I'll go you one better. We could solve our entire financial crisis by instituting a tax on teabbagers using the term "Obamacare."

I expected dueling "Health care reform will pass." "Health care reform will not pass." headlines. I know I could get them myself but this thread will do the trick.

The fact that no one is 100% certain about this bill's passage will make this an interesting news day.

What has surprised me about the teabaggers, is the number of Christians I've seen who are involved with it from a religious point of view. Protesting with religious themed signs, praying for the bills defeat in church. Amazing what people want to inject God into.

/Matthew 7:15-23 comes to mind

Hobodeluxe: I hope the Freepbaggers turn violent and the secret police haul them all off to the Fema camps to face the death panels.

You really can't get good death paneling nowadays. It's all sawdust and glue, with just a veneer of death.

/Naughty Pine is still around, though it's pricey.

if/when health care reform finally passes (and I believe it is inevitable), i'm gonna have to tune into Limbaugh's show tomorrow to listen to his heart attack.

Of course, it's even money that if this bill passes today that Rush might take tomorrow off and get high. Then come back on Tuesday for a rant and rave.

As I promised some folks yesterday, if we pass health care today i'll try to call in to the Limbaugh show and see if I can get on air. I highly doubt I'd get through but i'll try just the same.

Plouffe: "The politics of this, by the way: If we pass this, we're in much better shape, politically, in the Democratic Party than we are today. Because we're going to go out there and not just talk about what WE'RE for, but what the Republicans are voting against: They are siding with the insurance companies over people who are denied coverage for preexisting conditions, siding with the insurance companies over saving seniors money. So this isn't just about us being a piñata here in the election. Elections are about choice. They are voting against an enormous tax cut for health care for 40 million middle-class families and 4 million small businesses -- that's what they're voting against. ... We are going to be much better positioned politically -- now, that's secondary to what's right for the country -- if we pass this. By the way, we had 15 million new voters vote in the 2008 election. OK, these are people are cynical that their vote really matters. If we don't pass health care, I think that sends a very depressing message. But it's going to be a very powerful message to them that their vote matters and they ought to stay involved in politics."

Rove: "This thing is paid for with Bernie-Madoff-style accounting. ... It's a gigantic disaster."

Plouffe: "Karl and the Republicans would be familiar with that."

Rove: "You will bankrupt the country if this bill passes. ... For God's sake, will you stop throwing around epitaphs [sic] and deal with the facts for once, David? ... We will fight the election on this,. and the Democrats will have significant losses in the House and Senate as a result of this bill."

Plouffe: "If Karl and a lot of Republicans want to call the election already, they ought to break out that 'Mission Accomplished' banner."

Rove: "That's cheesy, David. ... You should not denigrate the mission of the USS Abraham Lincoln."

Question.

If the republicans get hold of the house and senate this November and attempt to repeal this, does the repeal still require Obama's signature?

Andyr2120: It will be nice to get this signed into law. The whole news narrative will have to change once the Dems show that they still have all the power. A lot of people staked their political careers on blocking this legislation, and that bill is coming due...

This. Can't wait to see the Republicans try to explain to the seniors (who never vote right?) why they want to take away their right to affordable medication in the Medicare donut-hole. Those $4 bottles of pills before catastrophic coverage kicks in will speak volumes in the voting booths, IMO.

Not necessarily.

They could get 67 votes in the Senate and 290 in the house.

I think even Rove is getting a little crazy:

Plouffe, rolling his eyes, responded: "Let's put the fanciful chart away..."

Before he could finish, Rove interrupted: "It is not a fanciful chart, deal with the chart!"

Really, Rove? Acting like a 12 year old is TOTALLY going to help.

yes, and considering he'd likely veto it, it'd then require a 2/3 majority to override his veto.
Odds of that happening, very slim.

2010-03-21 10:53:54 AM
You can tell how bad this would be for the Dems by how hard Karl Rove is fighting against its passage...

Karl Rove: "You pass this bill and you've just signed your own death warrants! I won't stand idly by and watch the Democrat Party ruin its chances in 2012!"
