While it's hard to see how anyone could appreciate the movie directly, I can see how people (read: lonely middle/high school girls) would like the books, and by extension the movies.

Well from my limited knowledge (ie watching the trailers when I was going to see other movies), there is at least a little action in the movies. Probably not on the level of say, the new Live Free or Die Hard, but enough to warrant events called "stunts".

As for Twilight itself, I'm pretty neutral. If someone is into that kind of stuff, good for them, but I understand I am not part of it's target audience and therefore have no desire to see it myself.

There are actually a few big fight scenes in Eclipse, which I assume the director will make bigger and sparklier than the books did.

It's just plain miserable having to do any type of work in those conditions.

I watched New Moon last night. It's been a long time since I saw the first movie and I've never read the books. As I was watching, I couldn't figure out exactly why the vampire dude and Kristen Stewart's character are in love. Vampires or not, there seems to be no substance to the relationship. Just the occasional "You mean so much to me" and "I love you." Methinks that is not love.

So... I liked the books. There, I admit it.

The movies are awful except as eye-candy, which is odd-- the books are practically written to be a screen play, and they still farked it up. I'm not sure if the actors are terrible, or if they could be okay with the proper direction, but the directors have sucked. Or both. I think they should have spent more time on the environment, because the PacNW really lends itself to a spooky atmosphere. The character of Edward is totally misinterpreted, and Bella is as wooden as she is in the books. This serves a function in the books (she's supposed to be an empty vessel that the reader can pour herself into) but in the movies, we need an actual character to relate to.

But liking Interview With a Vampire, Bram's Dracula with Keanu Reeves or the last 2 Blade movies, doesn't exactly make you cool either.

A person's actual gender or sexual preference isn't really the issue here. If Liberace were still alive and watched Twilight, he would say "Man, that's really gay," and then throw his sequin cape over his shoulder and drive away in his rhinestone-covered Rolls-Royce.

If nothing else, Twilight serves at least one important function in society. If only there were some national registry of Twilight fans to pull it all together, and that way, when it comes time for Hitler II to rise to power, we know who to send to the gas chambers to cleanse society.

Try being a woman and having people either assume you already like it or keep telling you that you will just love Twilight if you give it a try. Watch the movie in the same mindset you would a movie on Mystery Science Theatre 3000, preferably with a few snarky friends. Seriously. It makes all the difference between "painfully bad" and "hilariously bad."

I tried. I couldn't even watch it on fast foreward. I own plenty of crappy movies on DVD. In their own way they are often charming. I've seen La Bete in the theater (which I'm pretty sure gets a person added to a government list). Twilight is really bad, the kind of rarely bad bad movie that seems to fight a person's enjoyment of the medium on every level.

To be fair, it was dying a slow death before Twilight. She wrote and starred in Thirteen, and that's about it. I think the only reason she got this role is because the director was the same between the two films

This too. as lame as Twilight is, it's equally laughable the the Buffy and, god help us, the Van Helsing fans (they exist?!) are ripping on Twilight.

At least the Van Helsing movie had Kate Beckinsale in corsets.
