Even if Syracuse were to win the whole thing it might not even be enough to redeem the Big East this year

2010-03-20 04:35:24 PM
Big East teams are falling faster than Obama's performance ratings. And for the same reason- they were based on smoke and mirrors, created by the east coast media.

2010-03-20 04:46:29 PM
At least none of the conference's teams in the big tournament have resorted to nutshots.

2010-03-20 05:00:52 PM
Now I hope Gonzaga takes Syracuse out even though I have Syracuse in the Final 4.

OTOH, that means that everyone around here is going to be talking about the Zags all week, so I'd be okay with Syracuse managing to win.

I'm more worried about Kansas being down to Northern Iowa at the moment, since they're my bracket champs. I had Nova going out next round anyway.

Well, there goes my bracket. All of my hopes now rest on Mizzou going all the way.

Don't worry. Lothar the Barbarian will hulk out soon and lead the team on a 30-0 run.

They're down something like 10 at the half, so they'd better. And UNM need to shape the fark up too, they're in my 8.

That's because they're a basketball conference who grew too big for their own league because they were too damned worried about their football teams, which consisted originally of Miami and a few teams that may or may not have been relevant once upon a time (even if, in the case of Rutgers, that once upon a time was in 1869).

If it were up to me, they'd figure out a way to make the football conference & the basketball conference two separate entities, because this whole 16-team conference spanning 12 states, the District of Columbia and 530,000 square miles(give or take) is just a bad idea.

\though i do admit, it does my Friar heart good to see Georgetown and 'Nova leaving the Dunk sadly

As an ECU student, I wholeheartedly support the Big East football conference breaking away form the basketball-only schools and raiding C-USA for teams.

LOL for Kansas choking. I wanted Kentucky to choke to, but there up by 30 on Wake Forest. I'm a SEC guy, but I farking hate Kentucky basketball. LOL I guess that's against the fark rules, but it's only personal against my former 78 year old boss who was a alum of UK and lives in Lexington. He never let us forget he helped design Rupp Arena.

I'm currently enjoying a mini vacation with my kids in the Smokeys and I'm pretty well lit if you know what I mean. I just thought I'd share that with everybody. Have a good night you farkers are highly entertaining!

....just wow.

Thank god most people only "care" about College Basketball for 1 week a year.

Honestly, if people haven't realized that these tournaments are designed to offer the most upsets, then I really weep for the intelligence of sports fans everywhere. Just because they let in a ridiculous amount of teams and seed them arbitrarily doesn't mean that the rankings are indicative of the actual performance level of the teams. Rather, by seeding poorer teams higher (for example: Big East teams) and tougher teams lower, they can ensure that there will be a handful of upsets in every round.

Even Villanova players and coaches were completely surprised to get a #2 seed. Jay Wright said that the team was still weak and a "work in progress". They were ranked #2 overall because everyone loves an upset. Had they been ranked #4 and beaten a team they should have been matched up against, it wouldn't very exciting. Instead, they were matched up against a Saint Mary's team that had no business being ranked that low.

Beer It's What's For Dinner: I understand "my team is better than your team", but what's up with the "my conference is better than your conference" dick-waving? Who gives a shiat?

Well, as a UK fan, I will say that UK gets trashed alot because they are SEC both by fans and sports media.

So, as a UK fan, it's a little amusing when the Big East, touted as the best conference, flops and chokes all over everyone's bracket.

These are the same people who biatch about hype on ESPN, yet watch ESPN constantly.

March Madness brings out the idiots of the sports world. Both in media outlets and in every area of life (Fark is a great example of this).

I'd also really like to know who these Big East haters think should have gotten into the tournament over these Big East teams. There's no doubt the teams were misseeded, but to say that any of the Big East teams who made the tournament didn't deserve to be there would be farking retarded, not even relatively retarded by Fark standards, I mean shiatting in your cereal bowl retarded here.

It is part of cushioning the blow of losing... "Well, at least my last place team is in the TOUGHEST CONFERENCE in the nation!"

Of course, the PAC-10 is currently that conference.

You can't deny that the PAC-10's nonconference was extremely shiatty, but they're showing great stuff in the tournament.

I still have all my final four teams (Ohio St, Syracuse, Kentucky and gulp Purdue) so I'm getting a kick. Then again I pick the Jayhawks to lose in the 2nd round every year.

As a lifetime Big Ten guy I will never get this. There are teams in the B10 I will never, ever cheer for (i.e. Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, and Indiana), but I bleed orange and blue for Illinois (yet am from Wisconsin) and cheer for Michigan. I just hate a lot of B10 teams and also hold very bad, deep grudges against Bill Self and Bruce Pearl. I take this way too seriously and need help.

Generation_D: BIG LEAST

Just like football, amirite!?!!? But I did have villanova going another round, so that kind of sucks.

And for the record I had Kansas losing in my bracket with Tennessee coming out of that bracket but since the other 3 guys ahead of me had Kansas winning it all I seem to be looking good.

SVenus: Big East teams are put in the tournament because they bring ratings

Its because they are supposed to be good but lately every time they are tested they end up losing, unlike the college football ratings leader which is strange because I would have preferred the last two lose.

Spewing bullshiat?

Nova was 4-5 going into the tournament and sucked in the Big East tournament. They lost to almost every top-25 opponent during that stretch (beat WVU once but also lost the last game of the season to them).

He's absolutely right: they had no business being a #2 seed. When interviewed, Jay Wright even admitted he was surprised at receiving such a high seeding.

And if you're actually saying someone is retarded for pointing out that the tournament committee ranks these teams for the sake of upsets, you don't watch enough of these tournaments. Seriously. Teams getting ranked correctly and higher seeds consistently beating lower seeds wouldn't be very exciting, would it?

/lol at you watching ESPN enough to grab a screen shot
//lol for even knowing who that guy in the screen shot is
