Here's the skinny from what I've read/been told/ etc.

You're born into this world with some kind of karma debt. Well, most people are. The whole purpose of your life is to pay your karma obligations so that you can ascend and be free of this world.

Varying theories about what happens in between lives are thrown around, but it would seem to be that the basic consensus is that one dies, then is taken away by higher spirits which, review the events of the previous life. Then a decision is made about what the next life should be to fulfill remaining karma debt obligations and the soul is then reincarnated. This isn't an instant process necessarily, as ThomasHayden pointed out.

Souls that have fulfilled karma obligations and reached the highest levels of ascension can choose to advance to a higher plane or they can return to Earth as a highly enlightened being from the get go. (Jesus, Buddha, Gandhi, etc)

People of low spiritual vibration or "evil" people will be very slow to awaken to the fact that they are dead. Sometimes hundreds of years. In some cases, those who desperately try to get immediately back into the mortal coil will instantly reincarnate as an infant who then quickly parishes. (This is supposed to explain what happens to the 'souls' of someone that hasn't had a chance to really live)

And FWIW there are plenty of people who have experienced so called past life regressions who say they were nothing more than a peasant girl that got raped and murdered at the age of twelve.

Me personally, I've never delved heavily into this stuff but I have had dreams where I was someone else and doing things completely out of character. What does it all mean? Meh, who knows. I think it's somewhere between a healthy combination of "don't take any of this as gospel truth" and "keep an open mind cause there's plenty of stuff that we really know jack shiat about."

TechnoHead: Like Bill Maher said, if reincarnation was true, we would have, at least once, seen a raccoon pick up a pencil and write "Help me. .My name is Charles and I used to be an accountant"

This made me LOL. But in reference to my previous post:

I was Peter Paul Rubens in a past life. Which is odd, because in this one I don't really go for fat chicks, and I can barely draw stick figures.

Oddly, nobody ever discovers they were a ditch-digger or beggar.

I was an African American slave, a reparations check and affirmative action are needed to ease those traumatic regressions.

I think we're related. In my past life, I was your slave master (or "massa") and did your African American mom.

Let me just say, she was quite the freak in bed.

well in buddhism at least you weigh yourself on what youve done and the things that happen to you are things that need to happen to you to reflect and learn. say you used to make fun of handycapped kids all the time then in the next life you end up being handycapped or having a brother that is or something, not as "punishment" but as a learning experience. good and bad are pretty irrevelant FWIK its just that there IS suffering and you as a sentient being should help eliminate it in life. if you cant you get as many trys as you want till you are enlightened lol.

Lanny Budd: Don't these crazies read the papers? There are like, what, more people alive right now than the total of all people who have ever lived in the past? Or something, meaning that there are not enough past lives to go around, let alone having multiple ones.

This is a result of the mass extinction event on Alpha Centauri II. Trillions of sentients of all species dead. The souls have just shifted to earth. Should have been more careful with the Zero Point energy project.

Jinx Malone: cryinoutloud: rmz: It's always a good sign when the article says she holds "a degree in psychology and a certification in hypnotherapy" without elaborating further.
I'm guessing an Associate's from the local community college, perhaps?

Bachelor's degree in psychology is about as useful as one in English. Except the English major can probably write better.

Generally true, but English majors can't spell for shiat ;)

/Not an English major
//Not a psychology major either
///In my experience, psych majors are typically batshiat insane

Let's see.

ME: I have and English degree and my grammar sucks most of the time. If it wasn't for spell check I'd appear drunk half of the time.

EX: Art and Psychology degree holder. Couldn't decide whether she wanted to be a 'punk/rebellious' art kid or a religious good girl even at the age of 26. Yet she couldn't even see her own problems with all of that psych training. Mind bending.

So yes, I would say that your hypothesis is true.

I've found that many people majoring in psychology are a little bit bonkers themselves, and really have no business trying to help other people work though their craziness.

Cases that come to mind:

One, a very intelligent girl, majoring in psychology--but thought vampires, werewolves, ghosts etc were real. She'd seriously go out looking for vampires in the city, go to bars, graveyards, etc, and explain how she wanted to marry one. Something about Byron being immortal and still alive today, and his grandson or something was a vampire hunter in London... she used to mail him. I don't know if she got past this, but I was so confused at the combination of intelligence and craziness that I had to take a step back for awhile.

Second case: Extremely controlling girl, to the point it was a personality disorder. Majoring in psychology. Not as interesting of a story, but I do wonder how they feel when they read about themselves in textbooks.

Benevolent Misanthrope: Nelly Furtaco: You're loss. I'll bet she would've let you put it in her butt. Crazy chicks = crazy sex, etc.

1. - You're - "you are". Your = that which belongs to you. Learn it.

Good call. I have NEVER before made that mistake, I hate seeing it, and I too mock those who make it. I was, however, really stoned when I wrote it. Thanks for giving me a complex.

They don't see those examples in textbooks as themselves when they read them. Self-denial and projection are primary survival skills of these archetypes. Bonus points if they're hardcore religious. There's something special about the mentality of those that believe Jesus forgives them as long as they accept him as their savior. In my experience they think that it's a get out of jail free card for treating people like crap in a relationships or day to day contact. This goes for the guys as well as the ladies.
