Great job, as usual. Welcome home!

Foreign aid can't build a country up, it simply destroys local businesses.

We send food and clothing to Africa, and as a result it puts all the local farmers and producers out of business, retarding growth. It is best just to let them grow on their own.

Haiti was farked before the earthquake, and will be farked for the foreseeable future.

At least we didn't invade, otherwise we'd never get out.

2010-03-20 01:28:49 PM
Luckily if we spend all our money taking care of everyone else we can just print more.

Welcome home sailors, job well done.

There are some activists in LDCs who want trade access, not handouts. Makes sense to me.

Wait, did something happen in Haiti? There's a new season of American Idol, and I've been really concerned about Sarah Palin's reality show lately....

Dunno. Third-world country, not remotely compared to the awesomeness of the US, therefore, inferior and prone to be hated upon and made jokes of?.

A child is waiting with his grandfather at an airport terminal for his father to get off the plane. The grandfather steps away to use the restroom, and tells his grandson to stay there. A chiseled marine steps off; perfectly shaved face, square jaw, flawless uniform with dozens of medals. The child asks, "are you a real marine?" the marine replies, " yes I am, would you like to wear my hat"? The boy says "yes." The marine steps off to hug his family. Then a sailor comes off the terminal; unshaven, still drunk, stained uniformed. The boy asks "wow are you a real sailor?" The sailor replies, "yes I am, do you wanna suck my d*ck?" The boy replies, "no, I'm just wearing the hat."

...Really?

Haiti's infrastructure was pretty much wiped out by the earthquake, and they've just entered the rainy season that will pretty much turn the entire island into a giant mud slide.

I don't think we're 'retarding' anything by making sure they're not all dead in a couple months.

Haiti's total assets pre-earthquate: approximately a buck fifty
Amount of charitable donations after earthquate: around 628 gajillion dollars

No Subby, we are supposed to continue sending money to Haiti forever. They will never be self sufficient and therefore we should support them because ....

Why should we support them? Because we are 'rich'? I don't think so.

Upon returning to Baltimore, many members of the crew were heard stating how living in Baltimore prepared them well for what they encountered in Haiti. "Both places look pretty much the same," said Phinster McGooglypants.

Subby, perhaps there may be plane leaving soon from your local airport which could facilitate your journey to Haiti allowing you to provide first person assistance to those in need.

Well, obviously we have to support them forever. They aren't capable of fending for themselves. They're black. They're inferior.

I think this is what subby is trying to say.

The USA and its military are such kind altruistic charitable organizations. Such generosity. Such loving, nurturing care. What did the world do to deserve it?

Or maybe enough land-based medical facilities have been constructed to allow to allow the the excellent, mobile but ultimately limited hospital ship to leave. It can go back to Baltimore, resupply, rest and get ready for the next mission.

Look at the specs:
Intensive care wards: 80 beds
Recovery wards: 20 beds
Intermediate care wards: 280 beds
Light care wards: 120 beds
Limited care wards: 500 beds
Total Patient Capacity: 1000 beds
Operating Rooms: 12

Impressive, but in two months they could build land based facilities to handle many more than that. In addition, the needs that a hospital ship typically attends to are probably at or near the end.

Good job. Well done.

I give thanks to the Comfort and our nation that there was a country that even had the means to send a ship down there for that amount of time. Good job guys/gals!

Haiti, a land that can support maybe two million people but has nine million because of too much farking and not enough working.

Building a hospital or two will not help at all, and will only make matters worse unless the surgeons did only sterilizations and nothing else.

Consider a Soylent Green factory, that might have been useful.

It's not so much that Haiti doesn't need help, but that Baltimore needs it more.

When it comes to terrorist organizations providing humanitarian relief for PR purposes, Al-Qaeda does a much better job than the US military does.

Fark Haiti. What have they ever done for us?

Well, historians believe that the slave rebellion in Haiti prompted Napolean Bonaparte to sell the French colonial territories in Louisiana and elsewhere to the fledgling United States of America in 1803, more than doubling the size of the US.

----

In the 1980s, Haitian immigrants were the primary HIV vector into the United States. Before that, baseball stitching and coupon redemption processing.
