I don't know what's up with you hating on Babylon 5, subby, and the Eleventh Doctor hater. You two are trying way too hard to get your links greenlit, and its either a supreme case of butthurt or a major trolling hard-on. Either way, it's getting old.

Sadly, it also seems to be working. :-(

Most of the Superman continuity, in all its forms, has been pretty bad. That's how comic book properties are. They're always redeemed by their potential and by the 5-10% of their content that's really good.

Superman, in true form, will survive this even if it sucks.

Babylon 5, on the other hand, was doomed as soon as they lost Tamlyn Tomita.

Honestly, JMS is the ONLY reason I would pick up this book. I loke a good superman story but so few fall in continuity. The best stuff is elseworld.

2010-03-20 01:16:06 PM
I agree with all four of the above.

2010-03-20 01:26:30 PM
Personally I loved JMS' treatment of Jeremiah on Showtime until he was screwed out of it.

We've determined that subby:

a) Hates Babylon 5.
b) Hates the new Doctor Who.
c) Loves Lady Gaga.
d) Greenlights any article related to that inane twit Katy Perry.

Randomaxe:

Tamlyn Tomita?? hahah .. oh man are you farking kidding me? She couldn't act. She was terrible, as well as Dr. Kyle. Terrible actors! Tamlyn Tomita is still 100% as hot as she was though, thanks to her asian vampire genes.

I think the only recent Superman story in continuity which I enjoyed may have been Geoff Johns's "Brainiac" arc. For non-continuity? Holy shiat people need to pick up Morrison's All-Star Superman

JMS created Rising Stars. For that, he will get a permanent pass from me.

Even though I dislike JMS' writing, I bet his run on superman will be successful. DC needs to do something with the big guy, he's been boring for years

I loved his Spiderman run as well. Yes, there were a few really bad things with the Gwen/Norman baby thing (REALLY REALLY BAD) but I am willing to allow that without JQ getting involved JMS could have done things much better. Loved how he treated MJ and Aunt May.

Rising Stars is one of the few comics I was able to really talk my wife into reading and she loved it. We watched the whole B5 series right after she finished.

I love B5, and most of JMSs other work as well. That said, he does fail in one area fairly consistently, and thats when he tries to apply humor. He very rarely does it well. However, most of his stuff doesnt need to rely on it so its not a big deal. He always has been best at the grand story arcs and slow character development. Humor and witty dialogue, he should leave that to Joss Whedon.

2010-03-20 02:30:19 PM
Also I'm not a big B5 guy, but I deeply respect JMS's work because of two series.
1) Silver Surfer: Requiem.
2) And the Thor relaunching post-Civil War.

Both are fantastic.

he was great on Supreme Powers - then they crossed over with the ultimates and it went to hell
he was great on Thor but then Thor got dragged into Seige and it went to Matt Fraction (hurray!)

JMS does his best work when he isn't tied tightly into a continuity/committee type situation.

I didn't like his spiderman, the gwen thing - which would have worked better if marvel had let him make peter the father - and the spider totem stuff just seemed wrong to me. (huge fan of the reboot which seems like classic spidey to me)

To make the books I like best from JMS he needs more latitude than a character who is well established or tied into the larger continuity will give him.
Superman is the epitome of both problems, unless they can come up with a Thor style post-ragnarok clean slate with a similar isolation.
(they can't)

I quit reading with the reboot. I have been reading Spider-man for 16 years and back cataloged the last 25 give or take an issue here and there. I like the old spidey but I can't seem to get into the new stuff. I think its a combination of how we got there and that I feel that ground has been covered and I wanted a more progressed (just a little bit; not 30something with kids) then he is in the reboot.

Subby,

I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some trolling comes at too high a price. I would look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this.

Can you and your associates arrange that for me, Subby?

So it was so convoluted that, instead of getting the, ahem, grand artistic vision of Grant Morrison, it ended up getting wrapped up months before he had planned to have this mega-big, super cool reveal, which he left at home and you can't see right now?

I can't stand Morrison on established franchises. Give him a mini or let him start his own title. But do not, do NOT for fark's sake, give him Supes, the Bat or any flagship title.

Doubtful. I suspect we won't see Darkseid or any other New Gods in the mainstream continuity for while given the events in Final Crisis.

JMS was a terrible writer on Amazing Spider-Man, even before the One More Day crap.

Freschel: Also NO MORE LEX LUTHOR, please. Can we have Darkseid instead?

Lex Luthor is the most shining example of how stupid DC is these days, in wanting to make it 1968 without the fun.

Which makes more sense... evil, intelligent businessman who is richer and more powerful than God, and gets pissed off because some alien guy comes in and takes the spotlight away, or evil, intelligent fruit in a green and purple suit of armor who keeps whining about how he could "fix everything" if only he didn't have to build green and purple suits of armor to rob banks so he could get the money to beat the alien so he could fix everything?fark you, DC.

As for JMS on Superman... odds are, DC will force stupid ideas on him, and he'll be gone in a year.

I really like what JMS did with Spiderman. I debated picking up his run on Superman, but I know I'd just end up really liking it, then somehow Quesada would go do a stint at DC and undo all the cool stuff.

oddly, i'm sitting here watching B5 on DVD.

anyone who creates a society where the leader of the WINNING SIDE has to set himself on fire and die in order to win is inherently awesome.

When hasn't Superman been lame? The Krypton villains in part 2 were cool but Lex Luthor was completely gay. And how did powerless Clark and Lois make it back to civilization from the North Pole? Anyway, Superman always kind of sucked.
