Who the hell takes $7000 of jewelry to a hospital, let alone leave it out in the open next to the bed?

If she was rushed there she didn't have a choice, but you'd think the hospital would have at least put it in a safe.

I can forgive him for cruising hospitals for dying old ladies to rob.

But his spelling is simply atrocious. A transgression like that is simply unforgiveable. Amirite?

Came in here to say this. While this is a heartless crime (and a heartless pun) if you're in palliative care, you don't need $7000 worth of jewelry. You can't take the stuff with you.

Palliative care implies that she had been sick for a while. Once in palliative care, you have your suffering eased.... and then you wait for the grim reaper.

In an earlier article, it mentioned that her house was robbed the last time she was hospitalized--hence her decision to bring it with her.

\but you can't take it with you

FTFA: The pair then allegedly made their way to the palliative care unit and stole approximately $7,000 worth of jewelry from the bedside of an elderly woman who was lying unconscious in her hospital bed. The woman died a short time later.

That's not what I was getting at (I see what u did there), but that's what a safe and safety deposits are for. Most hospitals have them.

While you comment is likely just hyperbole, I think the potential sentimental value to a family or loved ones might be the thing that most makes this a douche move.

FYI, from better sources it turns out that she brought the jewelry with her after being robbed the last time she went to the hospital ( home was robbed ).

The theif also stole from her while she was alive and she died less than an hour or so later before the police even arrived to record the theft.

It could have been an expensive ring necklace or bracelat or whatever.
It doesn't take bling much to add up.

Just ask P. Diiddly.

I have a friend who works at East General so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

Also, another article I read on the subject said that she was there with family members who stepped out for coffee when she was robbed. The kicker though is that the reason she took the jewelery to the hospital with her is because the last time she was in the hospital somebody broke into her house.

Sad :(

The guys were really dumb to rob someone in a farking hospital. They have security cameras up the arse.

My deceased grandfather's rolex (which was actually a really cheap one he got in remembrance of his service in WWII) was taken from my uncles house when he was on vacation, pissed the entire family off a lot. Never caught the bastards either. That's why this stuff matters. I was going to guess either a) she had had a break-in before or b) she was afraid family members would steal it while she was away.

It's a *mild* comfort to know the answer was a) and not b)...

The woman brought the valuables to the hospital "for safe keeping" according to a news article I saw. This would seem to fly in the face of advice from all hospitals (I know of) that says to NOT bring valuables into the hospital.

The woman, however, was understandably distracted/under diress etc... The family and hospital staff may have some burden of guilt though. (who knows, maybe the woman was adamant about keeping them close by)

All of that said, I hope the faces and names of these morons get spread far and wide. I hope they are 'congratulated' far and wide on their impressive display of spelling, grammar, compassion, and humanity.

I hope their miserable existences just got even more miserable.

I was guessing she just wanted to be "all gussied up" before she died.

Sounds like the guy is a typical d-bag that thinks HE'S ok, it's the WORLD that's the problem! Probably has a sense of entitlement, too.
