Can we spin this into some sort of socialism killing small businesses argument?

maybe charging $1k+ for an article of clothing during a massive recession isn't the best business model.

Pinto is closing her Chicago boutique with a liquidation sale through Saturday offering discounts of up to 70 percent on her clothing, some of which is priced at thousands of dollars per piece.

I am Jack's complete lack of compassion.

Perhaps creating extremely expensive clothing that appeals to black women might not be the best career choice.

What?

I think we could find them a fresh and ready customer base for their products.

I noticed a part of TFA that mentioned that the world at one point was enchanted by Michelle Obama's style. It seems that it was more the media constantly telling us that we should be enchanted by her style. And her beauty. And her farking arms.
IMHO, There is nothing particularly beautiful about this woman whatsoever. Just because we have a first lady that doesn't look like an old bat doesn't make her a goddamn supermodel.

Why in hell would someone want to wear what some random famous person wears. Wear what looks good on you. The only time I've ever taken a cue like that from an actor was one that had the same hair color as me, and same skin tone, etc...dyed his hair, and looks awesome so I figured it would suit me as well and it did.

I hate fashion. I hate people who charge a 1,000 for a shirt that looks ugly. If you have much cash, have your clothes hand made for you.

She should have given more thought to the back end expenses.

Same thing happened to Hartmarx. Having Obama wear their suits didn't stop them from imploding and getting bought out in a fire sale by some British investors who promptly fired my uncle, one of their mid-level accountants.

There's nothing enchanting about her or her style. Yes, she isn't like the older women that are normally first ladies, but they at least looked dignified and didn't make a big fuss out of which designer they're going to choose for a ball or an event. At least the old bats I appreciated what they did. Not sure what Mrs. Enchanting Obama has quite established just yet besides her fashion designers, blah. Give me old school class and dignity any day.

THIS

Michelle Obama is an above average looking middle aged woman. She's not a fashion icon and never was. Her dresses appear to come from Bloomingdale rather than K-Mart (as you would expect for a lawyer), but there's nothing about them that screams they're designer made.

I don't find Michelle Obama particularly attractive, but I'm not quite sure how that relates to her value as a human being.

I notice often that conservatives are quick to point out that the most impressive attributes of their "strong women" are generally just the ability to be loud and marginally attractive without actually pointing to redeeming qualities of intellect or public service.

But yeah, that dress Obama wore totally makes her look fat socialist.

milesl: I can't believe people are still admitting to supporting the retard.

I don't think the people who will be buying her clothes at 70% off aren't so much supporting her as they are trying to get a good deal on high-end fashion clothing. I didn't realize she was mentally retarded..but that fact does make it pretty impressive that she opened a clothing boutique, much less one that was patronized by the First Lady.

sn82: Give me old school class and dignity any day.

True, she's no Jackie Kennedy, but she's got a whole lot more style than the Hildabeast or either of the Bush Stepford wives. Nancy Reagan looked like (and was) an evil old harpy, but at least her time in Hollywood taught her to dress well.

So, making dresses for a woman who looks like Evander Holyfield wasn't such a good idea after all.

WHy does it always surprise people that skill at doing or making something does not equate to skill at running a business?

Making a high-quality, popular product doesn't guarantee financial success. Mis-management has ruined MANY great companies. Indeed, a sudden surge in popularity can itself kill your company if you don't manage the growth properly.

NEWS FLASH: Having style is different from being attractive. Also, it's nice to have a first lady who can deviate away from wearing the dress suit at all appearances and photo ops.

Nah, it probably has to do more with the immature frat-boy mentality that defines any woman who doesn't look like the heavily-retouched photos of glamour models they masturbate to as being fat and ugly.
