So he was gay. Big surprise. Everyone knows that every homosexual has a copy of Disruptive Terrorism.

I thought Mike Nelson was Lord of the Dance.

"A number of office supplies, such as a fax machine, printers, floppy discs, a computer tower and multiple pens were also seized."

Farker was dangerous! Glad to see the Mounties are on the case.

FTFA: Notebooks were also taken full of information on Dawson Creek, pipelines, Canada's government and the oil and gas industry.

I fail to see the problem here. Let him go ahead and blow up those proto-emo kids.

Varying lengths of copper wires and pipes were also taken. More personal items, such as a VHS tape called Dress your Swedish Drawloom and cassette tapes of Lord of the Dance and Movie Music, were taken as well.

OK that's kind of funny.

writings about the RCMP, oil and gas, and an entry from the year 2000 about Karman Willis. Willis was a 16-year-old who was fatally shot on Ludwig's property in 1999 when she and her friends were joyriding on the farm.

No charges were laid in relation to her death.

That--not so much.

Irish dancing men dancing together is a gateway to terrorism.

No country in which men do not dance together has a terrorist movement.

All countries in which men dance together have terrorist movements.

It's not the fault of the gays. It's the fault of the straight guys who have to prove themselves virile. Homosexuality is actually the cure for terrorism.

1. Ireland (IRA)
2. Afghanistan (the Taliban)
3. Israel, Jordan, etc. (the PLO, Hassad)
4. Eastern Europe (especially Bulgaria, Greece, Albania, etc.)
5. Oklahoma
6. Turkey

You might think terrorism is caused by sheep, but no, New Zealand and Australia have more sheep than people and they aren't particularly terrorist. England and Scotland have as many sheep as Ireland. Llamas are almost sheep but there's as much terrorism in Columbia as in Peru and Chile combined.

I rest my case.

Line dancing must be banned before it destroys America and Canada. It may be too late to save Appalachia.

I remember some movie where a criminal was talking baseball to another criminal and some civilian they'd kidnapped expressed amazement. The criminal said to the effect just because I'm a criminal doesn't mean I don't have hobbies. So the wacko in TFA likes Lord of the Dance. Many people do. Watching arm-dead Hibernians bounce up and down is not my cup of tea, but it is popular.

I love how they confiscated over 2oz of pot and didn't charge him for that. Knowing this country, it was probably used as a treat for the officers after all the overtime...

Likely because your geographic location is pretty disconnected from sour gas wells pipleines at the heart of the conflict.

Isn't that one of those old Loompanix books from the early 90's that could be picked up in every indie bookstore in the U.S? (Usually located on the exact same shelf as the Book of the Subgenius and the Happy Mutant handbook)

Remind me to get rid of those if I ever decide to become an eco-terrorist.

He did shoot here and doesn't deny that he shot her. The kids were trespassing, and as you can imagine he's paranoid and made a legitimate claim he thought he was acting in self-defense -- they were doing a late-night, drunken, Alberta off-roading kind of thing and if I remember correctly were actually doing it to harass him.

Note that this isn't your typical family farm. The farm houses a tight-knit religious community of about 50 people. Some newspaper articles refer to it as a "compound."

Someone shot the girl, but the police had no way of proving who pulled the trigger.

Some newspaper articles refer to it as a "compound."

Is there any specific reason why the papers are after this guy? TFA is a classic hit piece. The word "compound" connotes something sinister. Anyone reading TFA (especially if they just read the headline) might think the RCMP captured a dangerous terrorist- unless they read the article really analytically and realize that the only thing the police actually found was some pot.

A crossbow does more damage than a regular bow, but they take an extra round to re-load, unlike loading a regular bow, which is a free action.

This guy is notorious for setting up bombs at oil wells and sour gas wells. He claims they're making his family sick. The guy lives near my hometown, and he is known as a nut. He's already served a prison sentence for the bombings. But it looks like he may be getting back into it again.

If I remember correctly, his commune is a radical splinter group from some church in Ontario.

Why do they hate him? Because he has a very personal vendetta against sour gas pipelines. Because someone or a group of people is bombing pipelines in the area and he is involved in the investigation.

Also, he farked with the gas. DO NOT FARK WITH THE GAS.

Well, he was successfully convicted for oil patch bombing in 2001. They don't have enough evidence yet on him this time, but he is a convicted eco-terrorist.

I'm not saying that it's OK to smear him or assume that he's guilty of these current crimes because of past convictions, of course. I'm merely pointing out that calling him an eco-terrorist is acceptable post-conviction.

Slight threadjack;

When Canadians say "gas" as in the posts above, do they mean gas or petroleum (gasoline)?

viperdriver: Slight threadjack; When Canadians say "gas" as in the posts above, do they mean gas or petroleum (gasoline)?

Natural gas (methane + other light hydrocarbons). "Sour" gas refers to natural gas with a high concentration of hydrogen sulfide.

In this case we mean natural gas gas. Usually call gasoline oil. Its the sour (high sulfur) natural gas wells, and their pipelines, this guy is against.

You may consider Wiebo a nut... likely he is... but I suspect he's probably a nut with some legitimate complaints. When I see stories about him, and the oil gas companies (and the RCMP under the influence of the oil companies), it's really very difficult to find the sympathetic party.
