10 to 1 that this mom was probably attacked by one of the kids that was beating on her kid and ended up hitting the little a$$hole in reaction to this. The moronic laws in most states dictate that no matter what (short of protecting ones life) any assault on a minor, whether it is in reaction to something the minor started or not, is considered an assault on a minor(while the kid walks away clean). It's the same complete bullshiat reason why a student can walk right up to a teacher bust his nose wide open, and if the teacher retaliates can end up being fired, and arrested for assault.

If those in the legal system dont think that the kids dont know about this, then they are even bigger idiots then I already take them for. The laws simply need to be changed. Anyone over the age of 15 (meaning a 16 Y.O.) should and does have the mental capacity to understand that what they are doing is wrong and why. If this is the case then there is no reason at all why someone of this age should not be charged as an adult.

And as far as the mother, she was protecting her child, was attacked in the process, and responded by striking some minor while trying to keep her daughter from harm. She didnt instigate any of this, so other then the fact that this is a minor why exactly is she being charged?
