"Elvis!" was recently released on DVD. In fact I got it from Netflix about a week ago & there was a greenlit thread regarding its release on fark.

Netflix also has "On Deadly Ground"

My dad took me and a friend to see Song of the South when it came out. Even as a little kid, I could see something wasn't right. I'd love to see it again if only for the nostalgia of it.

The flicks I've spent forever looking/waiting for on DVD are 200 Cigarettes and Love and Other Catastrophes.

Rootbzzr: The flicks I've spent forever looking/waiting for on DVD are 200 Cigarettes and Love and Other Catastrophes.

Love and Other Catastrophes is pretty easily available on Australian DVD - unsurprising given that it's an Australian film.

http://dstore.com/dvd/Love-and-Other-Catastrophes/755606.html

http://showtime.com.au/showcase/movie/85098

It's really, really available....

I remember 200 Cigarettes well - not actually a million miles from LOC in tone...

Aussies have you covered there as well:

http://burn.com.au/200-Cigarettes-DVD/369871.html

Google is your friend in these quests. Enjoy the films!

As for the article, Max Headroom is coming out on DVD this year, Metropolis - longest and most restored cut is also coming shortly; same with Song of the South.

The Stuff, as they point out, is available on Region 1, which is really not a problem for most of the population - and I would wager 99% of the film geek population.

Blind Fury is easy to get on DVD despite being an older one; the others are all easily able to be obtained if you really want them.

As some else mentioned, Elvis just came out on DVD (as it were).

List is a little bit on the fail side.

2010-03-19 07:02:46 AM
Definitely "Let It Be." One of these years... likewise the Spheeris film.

First off the top of my head that they don't mention is "Cannery Row." Early 80's, I think -- Nick Nolte and Debra Winger, John Huston narrates, and based around some Steinbeck stories.

Probably think of more after I sleep a bit.

I'd like to see a lot of those, but I did see the chronological Godfather once and. . . no. No it should not be on DVD. It is a good thing it has been erased. Just no. I actually first saw the Godfather like that, and found it awful. Only later did I see the real films and realize why people liked those movies so much.

2010-03-19 07:13:07 AM
Metropolis is coming out soon on DVD.

The Godfather? No. No. NO. That's a hideous linear attempt to tell the story on TV which destroys the parallel stories of GF2.

2010-03-19 07:18:45 AM
The Early films of Sam Raimi, or James Cameron.

2010-03-19 07:21:38 AM
On Deadly Ground? Really? Why waste the DVD on a movie like this? That's like saying Yor, Hunter From the Future should be on DVD......

2010-03-19 07:22:06 AM
And you can get On Deadly Ground on DVD. The article is dead right. His final speech is just damn weird. You've watched 80 minutes of Seagal kicking everyone's ass and then spends 10 minutes talking about environmental damage.

Also, the Unico films. There's some childhood nostalgia I'd like back.

Garbage Pail Kids is on DVD.

What, no Bikini Carwash Company 2?

It's not a movie, but I would really love to see China Beach make it to DVD.

I have 200 Cigarettes on DVD, so it must be out there somewhere.

The movie I keep hoping for a DVD release of is The Brinks Job. I'm a sucker for cheezy caper flicks.

Why isn't the Batman TV show on DVD? The Wikipedia article about this is very weird.

Also waiting for Men In Trees.

I totally agree. I would love to replace my VHS copy of Robot Carnival with a shiny, new DVD. If only for "A Tale of Two Robots."

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

Song of the South is on the torrent sites, well that's what someone told me anyway.

Elvis! is coming out on DVD, actually should be out right now.

Max Headroom is coming to DVD as well. Should be out in the next month or so.

The author needs to read up a bit on the titles he uses for his articles.

Movies I want on DVD that aren't on DVD, and most likely will never be on DVD:

Bert Rigby, You're A Fool Link (new window) - Great musical type movie with stellar acting and numbers. Quite hilarious too. You can catch it on Encore now and again, but a DVD release has never come to North America. Is a shame.

The Club Link (new window) Rented this one summer from a mom pop video store. While a biatcheesy in parts, it was actually quite a well done direct to video horror movie that took a normal plot device (time stopping + teenagers) and turned it in its head. The actor who played the "Evil" did quite an amazing job.

Rights issues. Very convoluted rights issues.

Pandemonium!
Silly horror movie spoof with Tommy Smothers as a Mounty. I love that film.

Okay, new word added to my lexicon thanks to the fark filter - biatcheesy

"It ain't easy being biatcheesy!"

ShadyIce: Vanilla Ice bought the film rights so that this movie couldn't be released to DVD. Boo!!

Are you serious?! I have that movie on VHS, I bought it when a video store was going out of business a decade ago. Had to pay 20 bucks because they said it was out of print. I still keep a VCR around just so I can show people its glory. I would kill for a DVD release, especially with commentary from Vanilla Ice himself.

Dog Welder: I would have added "The African Queen," but that is FINALLY coming out next Tuesday. Great movie.

/*LOVE* that movie.

I guess I just have to watch GPKids while I hold out and cross my fingers they finally come out with the original Star Wars movies. It'd be really cool if they added some spiffy things to it with the technology we have out today.

If we get really lucky, they'll even make it 3-D

2010-03-19 08:45:27 AM
I want Grendel! Grendel! Grendel! on DVD! It was a simple cartoon based on the book Grendel. Great story line. It is told from the perspective of, you guessed it, Grendel, from the Beowulf story.

Great book too. Read it about 3 times already.

If someone has a link to buy, watch or youtuber let me know.

List useless without Airborne and possibly Bodyslam.

Burn one for yourself. Think of it as a backup for when your VCR finally fails and you can't replace it.

Like The Karate Kid, only with Danica McKellar in the Elisabeth Shue role and Joe Piscopo as the evil sensei. Both terrible and fantastic.

This is the only Karate Kid reboot that I'll accept.

Hope they hurry with the DVD release; my VHS tape is nearly worn out.

/Seriously, this movie is 30 years old - what's the hold-up?

I have to heartily agree with the inclusion of TDOWCP2TMY on this list: I had the movie at one point on VHS, and I still have the soundtrack.

Some of the interviews and scenes are classic, and the music wasn't half-bad, either.

Grey Street: Sidekicks:

My favorite part was when the young hero finally jumped off the girl's friendship ladder only after kicking some guy's ass.

I would love to see the original Willard from the 70's on DVD. I've never seen it, and it hardly ever airs on TV. I'd also like to see The Gong Show Movie.

2010-03-19 08:56:29 AM
Since a bunch of movies on the list are coming out next Tuesday, can we add The Public Eye (new window)?

/have the VHS

Pandemonium! is a great movie. But an even better one (that was released on DVD, but is out of print) is Hysterical, starring the Hudson Brothers, with Richard Kiel (aka Jaws) as Captain Howdy!

"We got trouble!"
"Right here in Hellview City!"
"With a capital T and that rhymes with G and that stands for GHOUL!"
"We got Captain Howdy!"
"Right here in Hellview City!"
"With a capital C and that rhymes with Z and that stands for ZOM... bie."

Still one of my all-time favorite movies.
