But at the same time, this was some form of special response team, and it sounds like the were doing some type of live fire scenario. One should always be as vigilant as possible with firearms, but no one is perfect, and the law of averages always catches up to you. If you do enough live fire training, shoot houses, scenarios, etc, something is gonna end up happening sooner or later. It sucks for sure, and the shooter probably feels terrible, as he should. But it happens. Being on a SWAT team isn't just about wearing a tacticool outfit and carrying a UMP45. Sometimes you get shot. Again, it happens. Suffice to say, the team probably has some safety training lined up in their schedule that wasn't there last week.

Was that wrong? Should I have not done that?

Only LEOs and the military have the necessary training to handle firearms safely. Negligent discharges like this are the natural result of allowing the civilian populace to have firearms.

What do you think happens to civilians who have an accident stupid at the range? My guess is that it doesn't result in an "aw shucks, gosh darn it" sort of moment.

GaryPDX: You're kidding, right? Because if your serious, I call bullshiat. There are plenty of gun clubs and training courses for the private sector. We have quite a few sanctioned by the Oregon Dept of Public Safety and have various levels of training including advanced tactics open to both law enforcement and private citizens.

I've met a bunch of cops, and the only one who had ever been shot, had been shot at the range by another cop.
