Flash forward to a note sitting, a year from now, in the Denny's customer service and complaint box.

The hashbrowns were delicious but the bacon was lame.

One of my food reps for my deli told me it only takes 6 months of the right roids to cycle a pig. Birth weight to around 250 in half a year's time. Dunno if its true but the neighbor's 13 year old daughter is sporting a D cup. Hooray for steroids.

Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfarker. Pigs sleep and root in shiat. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eat nothin' that ain't got sense enough to disregard its own feces.

The last two paragraphs:

The farm in Swaziland, Africa, provides a self-sustainable home for young orphaned children and helps them with their education.

Mrs Kopp, from Denver, Colorado, USA, added: 'It was a beautiful experience for the children who have faced such tragedies in their lives.'

They could have put that a little closer to the top, I think.

FTFA: It was very emotional for me to see the little pig struggle because he just kept trying so hard and he was squealing in frustration. The mother pig seemed very aware of the situation and was grunting very loudly, almost as if she were telling him, "Get up, you can do it".

Don't anthropomorphize animals. They hate that!

No, its a "holy shiat that tastes awesome" thing.

Brush some maple syrup on before popping the bacon in the oven... maple glazed goodness when the bacon is cooked.

They let the children nurse the pig back to health? I have a sneaking suspicion that the little one isn't going to end up eaten. Have you ever tried to tell a group of 10-year-olds that their pet had to be put down for food?

Somehow, I think these kids will get over that little hangup when they smell the delicious aroma of roasted pork a few months from now.

Pigs don't need steroids because they're already pretty damned efficient at converting feed to body mass. It typically takes about 10 months to get a pig to a 250 pound market weight. You also have to ensure they're not medicated in any fashion for several weeks prior to slaughter. The meat is tested for chemical residue and the grower is hammered hard if any residue is detected. That is, they don't get paid and lose out on a HUGE investment.

The baby pig in the article suffered from spraddle or splay legs which is not too uncommon. It can sometimes be successfully treated, but out of a litter of 19, euthanasia would have been my choice.

That is a nice story. Now let's cut him up and eat him: bacon, pork roast, pork chops, ribs AND BACON
MMM BACON

Who would spoil perfectly good bacon by dumping maple syrup on it? Especially considering that maple syrup is likely 90% corn syrup. No thank you.

Ok, what someone said earlier about putting the syrup on BEFORE you cook it... That would work. But that's it.

2010-03-18 08:19:35 PM
Never in my life have I heard eating bacon with syrup. I'll make do with good ol' eggs and biscuits, thanks.

I have, on occasion, sprinkled sugar on bacon while it's frying. Yes, glazed - it's good!

ragnarqk: maple syrup is likely 90% corn syrup.

My grandma grew bushels of maple ears out in Nebraska, while my cousin drained plenty of corn sap from Vermont trees.

This just in... some kids are raised to know where their food comes from and not just "the supermarket."

They actually sell bacon with added maple flavoring in the grocery store.

Also, if you serve bacon with your pancakes and syrup, and the syrup gets on the bacon, well that's just tasty.

We moved out to the... Not city. Apparently the local 4-H club used to (still does, I think) give/sell teens piglets, and then the kids would spend the year feeding them, then sell them off to the (butcher? not sure). I'm very shady on the details, but I'd guess it's about 10 months, and they can ensure the pigs don't get steroids.
