What a lousy marksman.

I've heard of gun nuts but this is ridiculous.

According to Arizona law (Title 13 - Criminal Code, Chapter 4), "a person is justified in threatening or using physical force against another when and to the extent a reasonable person would believe that physical force is immediately necessary to protect himself against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful physical force." Depending on the situation, that justification can be extended to protect a third person. Investigators, however, must consider the circumstances of the individual incident to determine any such shooting was indeed justified.

Not too many men out there who would NOT use a gun to defend their daughter if necessary. I say the shooting is not only justified, but Daddy should have fired an extra round into the guy's groin, just to be doubly sure.

I vote "Father of the Year". I also wouldn't be surprised if the ex-boyfriend was on drugs, because who seriously doesn't stop when shot at, then actually shot?

He's good. By the time he got to the leg and groin shootings it was self defense.

In the UK the father would have been locked up for a minimum of 5 years while the guy who got shot in the groin would be called a victim who had his human rights violated. He would then be supported by the nanny state, given tons of money, and a big house on a council estate to live in. True story bro.

Under the circumstances, I'm surprised he didn't double-tap. He wounded him in the leg...when that didn't stop him he shot him in the groin.

I'm not at all saying that the father's actions aren't commendable. They are commendable. But, whenever I hear stories like this, I can't help but wonder if everyone would find it equally commendable if it were the woman choking the man and subsequently getting shot in the groin. Domestic violence is where we have are biggest double standard.

I don't know, I don't think this father is all that smart. If he had a long gun (and it doesn't have to be some super caliber thing, a .22 would be fine) he could have saved himself all of the potential for injury with that jumping out of a window onto his car crap. Instead, he could have remained comfortably ensconced in his home, and then used the stairs when it came time to attend to his bleeding target.

Honestly, people just don't think it through.

Nah, the first bullet probably did the job just fine on a target that flimsy. No sense wasting ammo.

2010-03-17 08:31:26 PM
Seems like, if the story is correct, a justified defence.

he didn't even go for the kill shot, and judging by a lot of the comments here and in other threads, he probably was still full of a fair bit of restraint in NOT going for a gaping chest wound.

Having said that, shooting a guy in the junk causes a considerable amount of agony and humiliation.

i'll personally buy Dad a shotgun so he can blow that asshole's nuts over to the next county.

If it meant my dad had my back if I was being choked by an ex (I have had an abusive ex), I'd live at home 'till I was 40.

Doubt my dad could hop out of a second story window, though.

No charges will be filed against this father. In military terms it's call lethal force and escalation of violence.

He tried a number of times to stop the assault with the least amount of violence necessary AND attempted to provided the asshole with medical attention after the he shot him.

In the long run, it may have been wiser to head shot the dude after the first 3 attempts to control the situation. I'm not sure I'd want a known violent man recovering after getting shot in the balls.

Take a look at the size and strength of a man vs. a woman. You really think a double standard is not good? Ever heard of an article of clothing called a "husband beater?"

The father hasn't been charged and the ex-boyfriend is half nuts about it.

Must have been a fairly small-caliber weapon if it took two shots, even to the extremities, to stop the guy.

This. I'd swear out the restraining order while the guy is in the hospital, and make sure the cell phone batteries are charged up. Other than that, the guy seems capable, as long as the criminal jackass doesn't get the drop on him (he seems the type, imo).

Doesn't quite work that way.

If a woman physically attacks a man, and he defends himself, he's more likely than not going to be charged with domestic violence. If he reports it or issues a complaint to authorities, he's going to be stigmatized as a pussy who gets beat up by girls.

The double standard is there, but for the (relatively rare) violent female, it's tipped in their favor.

Aren't we all disappointed with Dad defending his daughter from a possibly mortal attack. He needs to hone his NEGOTIATION skills so that if a reccurrence of the events occur he can come to an acceptable compromise with the boyfriend. Violence is never the answer.
