Scarlet Fever is when Strep is missed and it progresses. As strep will progress without symptoms on occasion it happens more frequently than you know.

I know, fark is no place for facts as that sucks the fun out of anything.

/going to be logical somewhere else

This is not fun. The son of a coworker got it, and he's not happy right now.

My son nearly died of it about 7 years ago. There was another child in our town that wasn't so lucky about 4 days before. :(

When my wife and I were in college, she got Whooping Cough. They had to alert the CDC. True story.

Yup, Overdose. That was going around here last year thanks to dumbass parents not vaccinating. All the middle schoolers had to get booster shots.

My daughter had scarlet fever a couple of months ago. It's not nice.

I got strep about 10 times as a child, scarlet once. Not fun. I think I missed about 30 days a year throughout elementary school.

Now that I'm an adult with paid sick time, I can't get sick to save my life. Dammit.

If only there was an easy affordable way for low income families to get adequate health care.

Symptoms include a sunburn-like rash, red lines on the skin, and a bumpy tongue

Not to mention the kidney, liver, and heart valve damage.

Ummm, this. Its not uncommon. And a breakout of 3 means there are like, 20 kids who have strep. Oh no. Its an epidemic.

I had scarlet fever when I was ten. Granted, I'm old, but that was in 1977.

Oh Christ on a cracker. Seriously? When I got it, I had great health care. That doesn't matter. Strep can turn into scarlet fever quickly, even WITH health care. I was already on meds for the strep and it still turned into SF.

I had Scarlet Fever when I was a child, I somehow caught it after having bacterial spinal meniegits.... To say that year sucked in my life was an understatement.

My son had a undiagnosed strep infection for over 6 months. All he had was a pain in his head. He was screaming and a bloody nose and the hospital even laughed it off and sent me home. After several thousand dollars they did a farking strep test that barly came out readable.

Funny the medication that my peds office then gave him cured the headaches.

Keep giving your kids antibiotics for sniffles, so that all the germs out there become increasingly resistant!

Or wait until the last minute to take your kid to the doctor because you don't have health insurance.

But at least the kid avoided catching autism.

People are such wimps these days. Goin around dyin all over the place. Won't catch me dyin. They'll have to kill me before I die. When I was a kid I had scarlet fever, mauve fever chartreuse fever. I'm a better man for it.

I like to mix references.

Overdose: When my wife and I were in college, she got Whooping Cough. They had to alert the CDC. True story.

I had that. Caught it somewhere on the way to Iraq (Crete, Kuwait, who knows?). There's an MD in England who claims it's way more prevalent than most doctors think it is.

It sucks, btw. Coughing spasms that make it impossible to breathe, waking up unable to breathe (the whooping comes from the sound you make trying to suck in air), coughing until you puke. Even opiates don't stop the cough. And it lasts for three months, minimum.

Oh for heaven's sake, my two little brothers got Scarlet fever back in the late 1970s and my family had excellent Blue Cross coverage.

The only thing I remember about it was that about a week after the fever was gone and they were up and out of bed the skin on their fingers started blistering and then peeling off. It was sort of hanging in strips (doctor said it was normal for scarlet fever) and it grossed me out. Being the Big Sister they had to listen to me, and I forbade them from sitting at the table with me to eat unless they wore gloves.

Yet another SF survivor here; had it at 21, damn near killed me. Had hallucinations from the fever, was down & out for a week. My wonderful employers at the time were half the reason, for not letting me call out sick when I really was... they let me go after I had the pleasure of throwing up in the office, and I could barely see straight.

My adenoids have never been the same since. That was the sickest I have ever been in my entire life.

My son had scarlet fever when he was 3, about 12 years ago. He had been fine, until he got the sniffles one morning, then ran a low-grade fever. My mom called me at work and said he had "a sunburn." That struck me as odd, since he hadn't been outside enough to get a sunburn. When I got home from work, he was obviously not feeling well, and I knew right away when I looked at him that it wasn't a sunburn. Memorial Day weekend was coming up, so I took him to the doctor instead of waiting. I'm glad I did.

I had a good friend in middle school who got that. Kid missed like 4 months of school. I had to drop off his homework so he could keep up with the class and not fall back a grade...
