I'm curious whose description they used. It's not like there were any witnesses, were there?

Biologists don't know for sure what triggered the attack but say it could be a combination of opportunity, hunger and instinct.

Just because a school teacher ate some wolves is no reason for the others to suddenly resort to cannibalism. But I can't figure out how we know the Alaskans were delicious, were some of them sampled also?

2010-03-17 01:30:51 AM
The only evidence they have for wolf involvement are tracks near the corpse. That proves absolutely nothing. They could have merely investigated the smell of blood, and walked off.

As the article says, wolf attacks on people are so incredibly rare, you would need DNA evidence to convince me (and many Biologists). I think this is lazy detective work, and the wolves are a convenient scapegoat.

Seriously. It's called nature, f*cktards. That's like being surprised when a killer whale kills a trainer.

It would be a shame if they killed the wrong wolves.

Ah, I remember this story. This is the one that said that wolf prints along with human footprints were found at the scene. That's some fine detective work, there, Alaskans. I can see now that Palin really is the smartest one of the bunch up there. Sad.

I usually tend to read them as typos when I brainfart, not add a couple extra words. Would be funny though.

FTFA: "We searched the Chignik drainage and located two wolves later in the day that matched the general description, that I've been hearing from several accounts. So we were able to successfully take those wolves from the air and we'll be sending the full bodies back to our lab to get worked up," Lem Butler, a biologist with Fish and Game, told KTUU-TV.

"I think it's highly likely" that they were responsible for the attack, Butler said.

"It was gray, it had 4 legs, and a tail!"

Fine CSI work going on here. Guys probably killed the wrong wolves.

palad: The only evidence they have for wolf involvement are tracks near the corpse. That proves absolutely nothing. They could have merely investigated the smell of blood, and walked off.

You can tell a lot by tracks. Tracks made by wolves walking up and sniffing it are very different from tracks made by wolves tearing a body apart during the feeding frenzy. I'm sure there were plenty of teeth marks too. Not to mention saliva, possibly some scat, how she was eaten yada, yada, yada.

They ran the wolf prints through NCIC. They matched suspects in the death of some red-coated brat's grandmother and for two cases of pig house vandalism.

That's a terrible attempt at trolling if you've never lived in a place where animals outnumber people.

/If you see a timberwolf - that's a predator. Leave it alone - if they're tracking you, it's probably because a larger predator is tracking you. They want to eat him - not you.
//If you see a gray wolf, I recommend .223 to deal with the literal scavenging varmints that track and kill humans without provocation.
///3 timberwolves can take down a full-sized grizzly bear. 4 can take down a moose. Humans are too small for them.

How bout that ride in. I guess that's why they call it sin city. Ha ha ha. You guys might not know this but I consider myself a bit of a loner. I tend to think of myself as a one man wolfpack. But when my sister brought Doug home I knew he was one of my own. And my wolfpack, it grew by one. So there were two of us in the wolfpack. I was alone first in the pack and then Doug joined in later. And 6 months ago, when Doug introduced me to you guys I thought, wait a second, could it be. And now I know for sure that I just added two guys to my wolfpack. Four of us wolves, running around the desert together in Las Vegas looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast.
