He's sculpted Yoda. That does NOT mean he designed Yoda. I'm sure there's thousands of people who have sculpted Yoda before.

Has this city council lost it's mind? If there's $200,000 dollars for a statue there must not be ANY thing else that needs funding.

The same question is asked when women's shelters are suggested, or when schools are suggested, or when golf courses are suggested...That there are other things to spend money on is obvious and to bring it up is pointless. The really important question is what the benefits of a statue might be.

$200,000 for the sculpture, or I will help you not.

This is the city that blessed the country with Allen Iverson. Of course there's other things they need. At the same time, they used to spend something like $2500 to paint every new police car a specific shade of blue "invented" by the longtime police chief.

But, tying this back to space, it is the city where much of the testing for the Freedom capsules was conducted. The rusting hulks of the testing scaffold are freaky in the fog at night.

When the sculptor came to the town and was told he was only going to get paid a third of what he was promised, he said that perhaps he could find new ways to motivate them. The townspeople told him they didn't think he was worth the money. That did not sit well with him. He found their lack of faith disturbing. When his underling asked him if he should try to put some sense into these people, he told the underling "No. Leave them to me. I will deal with them myself."

What I find awesome is that the city is paying for this with money they've been saving for three years.

I mean, what city actually sees that they might want to have a large expenditure in the far (multiple election cycles) future, say they're going to start saving for it, and actually follow through?
