Guinness stew is awesome... regular stew and add Guinness instead of water or wine.

Works with Rickards... but not quite as well.

my girlfriend made braised beef short ribs slow cooked in Guinness for me last week so I'm getting a kick out of these replies...

I didn't think it was possible to get "wasted" on Guinness. You'd die from bloat before you ever got enough actual alcohol in you to get drunk. It's only marginally stronger than Bud, after all.

It's odd that Guinness stew didn't make the list. And Shepard/Cottage Pie with Guinness is heavenly on a cold day.

This is interesting. Might try some of these.

One of the local pubs at my college (sadly no longer there) had the most amazing guinness barbecue wings. Mix Guinness in with some strong barbecue sauce and baste heavily. Really really good.

Actually its about 1% less than bud while having %1 more flavor.

My St. Paddy's Day dinner
4 large smoked pork chops
4 Andouille sausages
1 cup rinsed saurkraut
1/2 cup chopped onions
16 oz. Guinness
1 cup water

Bring beer, water and onions to a boil then reduce to simmer. Add everything else and simmer on low, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours.

Serve over boiled yellow potatoes. Yumb.

I don't know if there are any other Puerto Rican Farkers, but we mix a beer, usually Dos Equis or Corona, (yes I know, we embrace the stereotype) into tomato sauce and simmer a chicken in it. Add a side of Puerto Rican rice and some chicharrones and... mmmmmmmmm... beer chicken...BRB....

Use Guinness Extra Stout. Regular Guinness is like water compared to it.

Guinness actually has a lower alcohol content than Budweiser.

Budweiser = 5.0% ABV

Guinness = 4% (draught bottle) or 4.27% (draught/pub draught can)

The draught bottles also have fewer calories and fewer carbs than Budweiser.

Ah! I always thought it was just slightly stronger. No comparison on flavor, of course. I can only drink one or two, though.

Now McCaffrey's or Boddingtons (both of which you can actually get in the States, albeit in slightly different form than the originals) I can drink more than a couple of.

Never heard of Midnight Sun. Will check it out...

I make corn beef in the slow cooker with a Guinness, pat the corn beef with brown mustard and brown sugar, then cover with Guinness. Cook on low for around eight hours, If you want, add potatoes half way, and cabbage with around an hour left.

Listen to me like you've never listened to anyone:

Beer batter pizza dough is the best goddamned pizza dough in the history of pizza. Doughs.

It's very, very easy to work with, rather than the usual non-stretchy breadmachine pizza doughs with which you may already be familiar. You can spread it out for a NY style floppy pizza or keep it thick for more of a pizza margherita type recipe. It's that versatile.

And the taste is just a teency bit more yeasty than other pizza doughs, unless you want it to be stronger, which you can do easily.

But if I didn't tell people about this than I would deserve to be shot in the face. It's like holding back a secret that would affect national security or refusing to identify a murderer.

Shazzam:

Ingredients:
4 cups unbleached wheat flour
1 ¼ cups beer (or water)
1 packet active dry yeast
8 tablespoons olive oil
1 egg
¼ teaspoon salt

You'll need to warm the beer first, to about 100 degrees. NO HIGHER. Any higher and you'll f*ck it up!

Develop it the same way you develop any other pizza dough you're familiar with- you can do the lazy thing and use a mixer (works perfectly) or you can punch the sh*t out of it like a true Italian.

Either way- Jesus Christ.

Seriously.

[note: does not taste like beer]

Pay attention folks. If you ain't in Ireland, you can't get good Guinness. It doesn't travel well, and the farther away you get from St. Jame's Gate, the shiattier it tastes.

It is a light, refreshing drink when not packed in a can for days on end.

That 8 T of olive oil might have something to do with the ease of use..But: It sounds delicious. I have made similar doughs with white wine (less oil)

When the stew is done, put it in a casserole or individual oven safe serving bowls, cover with puff pastry, brush with egg and bake until GBD

I don't think so, but I'm the drunk in the relationship, he's mostly a beer guy, on special occasions. It works out well, I don't have to share the good stuff cause he's happy with a 12 pack of Guinness.

everybodylookattheirpants: Beamish

Actually I don't like Beamish that much, it has a more pronounced chalky, minerally taste to it. While I really like that in white wines, in beer? Not so much.

/Zipfler is a lager that is also a bit on the chalky side

I came here to say this. The Guinness chocolate cake/cupcakes are SO much tastier with a Baileys buttercream frosting. I make these occasionally and always get mauled before I can get the lid off the tray of cupcakes. Plus my recipe has explicit instructions about using 16 ounces of beer exactly, leaving about 12 ounces of leftover beer when you buy it in cans...

It leads to a sloppy frosting job because I'm a lightweight, but it's worth it.
