If this had been a kid all he would have gotten was a grounding.

The body has not been identified but is described by police as a middle-aged black man...

Was that before or after they found him?

/Watt?

2010-03-15 10:43:48 PM
So from the article headline, are they not sure if he's dead or not?

2010-03-15 10:44:39 PM
Eh, oh well, more power to him, I guess.

I went to find a picture of Sam Jackson being electrocuted in the last Star Wars film, and found this instead...

I really have nothing more to add.

Man, detroit tag is really getting a workout, and it's only monday.

They should really just stick to smoking crack in abandoned homes.

I am positive this is not the only reason.

Damn you, you magnificent bastard. I came here to say exactly that.

I read your post, stared at the screen for a second, then spat and chortled.

I'm not proud of it, but take a bow.

Are his survivors' going to sue the electric company and the wire manufacturer for not having "DANGER- This wire may carry voltages and currents that are hazardous to your health" signs on it?

The man should have learned how to conduct himself properly in public.

2010-03-15 11:01:21 PM
If he got his own Fark thread for stealing copper, he has no idea how lucky he is to be alive.

2010-03-15 11:02:11 PM
RTFA and no, he's not alive.

2010-03-15 11:06:16 PM
Good thing he's dead or he would've found himself nabbed by the coppers twice.

2010-03-15 11:07:37 PM
The body has not been identified but is described by police as a middle-aged black man who neighbors reported seeing riding his bike often in the area.

Given the circumstances, would it still be racist of me to say I find this part unlikely?

2010-03-15 11:09:11 PM
This is truly a sad story, I heard he was a really down to earth kind of guy.

2010-03-15 11:11:32 PM
I'm not one to normally cheer someone's death... but sometimes I make exceptions.

I hope, but doubt, this was the douchebag who broke into my grandma's house to steal the pipes when she was in the hospital.

How the f--k the people who buy the metal haven't been held accountable, I don't know. Christ, I had to provide ID just to sell some sports equipment to Play It Again so if it was stolen they could trace it back to me. And that was just some skiing equipment someone in my neighborhood was throwing out.

Got a $30 check and less crap went to the landfill, so no, I'm not above throwing stuff in the trunk when I know it's worth something. Pulling down power lines and breaking into basements is slightly different, though.

2010-03-15 11:11:42 PM
I'm guessing he saw the potential in the wires and simply couldn't resist.

/Yep, on a roll

2010-03-15 11:13:29 PM
PS

Nice headline, subby

If only he'd had more resistance to temptation, he would currently be equal to a (re)volt.

/lame EE joke is lame

I've heard that this kind of death is somewhat common in Russia, as are power outages from "someone stole a boatload of cable." And yes, some metal dealers are jerks. How else to explain the many missing historical markers in Detroit? What jerk smelter melts down a historical marker?

2010-03-15 11:19:53 PM
I wonder if some acquaintance will express surprise at this on account of his being well grounded.

Hey the guy said he got it at an auction. Who am I to question the moral character of this fine upstanding citizen?

/and where else am I going to get 500 lbs of bronze for fifty bucks?

And this, my friends, is why it's important to insulate yourself from such nefarious activities.

Police are looking for relatives to determine if he had any current problems at the time of his death.
