To be fair, smoking does cause hair to grow on your tongue. . .

One way to lose weight after you quit smoking is to begin doing smack.

What about junk? Should I not do that? Maybe the surgical intervention with the colonic equivalent of an apple corer should have been a hint. I don't know. There's a box of brown sugar with a spoon in it on the end table. I really want some. But it's there, and I'm here. And I've got my shoe to look at.

I would like some water, because I am very thirsty.

Quitting smoking, unfortunately, doesn't cure one of being an asshole.

It does, however, cure you from smelling like one.

Then why is this the 3rd time I've been sick in 6 months? This didn't happen when I still smoked.

Misunderstood fark cliche time! Fark yeah!

Romero meme was finding out about a new fad/trend/craze/idea laughably late. The Romero meme started from the article about blogging because he talked about blogging like it was this new thing no one had heard of. Romero is not synonymous with the Obvious tag.

"Hate speech infiltrates social networking sites," was a true Romero topic, this one is not.

They did know about this a decade and a half ago (or 4 decades ago if you were working for big tobacco) so it's not necessarily a misuse of the Romero cliche, but it's not a perfect slam-dunk, like a scathing report on the number of dicks on ChatRoulette for instance.

It must also involve technology.

NittLion78: Then why is this the 3rd time I've been sick in 6 months? This didn't happen when I still smoked.

Srsly. I quit smoking at age 28 and in the next 12 months suffered several skin infections (staph, molluscum, ringworm), two failed AC joints, a peroneal nerve injury, and two flus. Besides that I started eating more, gaining 20 lbs and at my physical got a problem result on a blood test for excessive carb intake (some liver thing - not from drinking which I also used to do a LOT more of). I went from top of my game to a fat sack of sickly shiat.

Maybe much of it was just age catching up with me, but it sure seems like the smoking was staving off a lot of nasties and it sure made it easy to stay trim (even if I couldn't run up a flight of stairs).

The other thing is my brain has slowed way down. Used to be a pack a day plus a coffee/pepsi per hour and I could freaking fold space and time in my head. Now it's all I can do to stay up through Jeopardy!

Miss the smokes. Been almost 2 years now.

I wonder if the Romero Institute is hiring? It would be kind of like working for the anti-Mythbusters...

Anyway, that's not what the article says. It says people who quit smoking get fat and develop diabetes. What gets healthier are their ARTERIES.

So basically, quit smoking and you'll be fat and need insulin; but your arteries will look great!

e-cigarettes, people. e-cigarettes. Google it now.

The tar provides a protective layer against germs.

Last I checked, smoking was almost exactly as deadly as playing Russian Roulette (one in seven smokers die of lung cancer alone). Enjoy that smoke while you can. My wife quit and got lung cancer three years later anyway though... sad subject. But put down that cigarette, really.

darren_boe: 2 months as a quitter now. So in a year im going to keep on this weight? and get diabetes?

Keep going with it. I'm on my 7th year, approaching my 8th, and I STILL cough up shiat once in awhile. As for weight and diabetes, just fill your time with things like exercising and eating healthy.

Then again, you could start using smack.......

I was always that guy - that "Ha! You'll never quit smoking -won't happen!" guy.

I read the Allen Carr "Easy Way To Stop Smoking," and it was like a Jedi mind trick. Haven't had so much as a puff since, even when hanging out with other smokers and after ten drinks. I never wanted to quit smoking; I wanted to want to quit smoking. That book did it.

There is nothing, nothing in this world finer than leaving the gym to have a cool glass of water and a smoke.

\Thinking about quitting actually

Bonus: not only are people healthier after they quit smoking, but they, along with everything they own, smell nicer too!!

Too true. Even a pen borrowed from a smoker stinks.

Not only that, so does a smoke bummed off a smoker.

Sorry to ruin subby's attempt at being snarky, but I don't think anyone doubts the fact that you get healthy when you quit smoking. The take home message is that the body starts recovering rather quickly, which flies in the face of all the idiots who say "What's the point? I've been smoking for years. Blah blah blah."

Four months. Going on week 2 of being sick with some respiratory thing. Brain still feels like Styrofoam. Almost impossible to work like I used to. Sigh. Still not going back to smoking, though.

Don't really know if anyone is still posting like me...but after quiting I had these dreams about me starting back up.

Fark-N-Noodle: Don't really know if anyone is still posting like me...but after quiting I had these dreams about me starting back up.

"Smoking dreams" are very common, along with feelings of guilt that you somehow failed at quitting.

2010-03-16 03:26:06 PM
Nobody likes a quitter.
Seriously though...on and off for 15 years. Mostly on.
Sucks. It's a love hate thing.
I love love love smoking.
I hate hate hate the smell, energy loss and money....and what it may someday do to me.
My advice: NEVER NEVER NEVER even try one.
Worse addiction ever!

2010-03-16 06:27:50 PM
It's actually more of a risk to quit and then start up again later.
