this movie will kick your ass. I'm looking forward to seeing it myself. all the reviews I've read rave about it.

I watched the red band trailers at IMDB and it looks real good. Accidentally spoiled myself by reading the Wikipedia entry for the comic book though. One problem is they say the kids have no superpowers, yet the trailer shows Hit-Girl running up walls and doing backflips, running along the sides of walls, and doing other stuff that is clearly wire work and not humanly possible.

I really really really really really really really wish they had made Hit-Girl at least 18 instead of 12. Goddammitsomuch.

Kick Ass/Defendor/???.

We need a couple more of these to be thrown together and released so that amateur superhero movies to surpass the zeitgeist of redundancy that was Asteroid/Armageddon/Deep Impact.

I'm looking at you Roger Corman, and I'm willing to chip in. All I need is a week to pull a script out of my arse.

My girlfriend and I saw the trailer this weekend. After watching Superbad and Role Models the day before we concluded that Christopher Mintz-Plasse will be typecast until he gets about 4 years older...then it's all over for him. Too bad. I enjoy his work.

At least it beats Michael Cera's "cute, shy, awkward indie music listening guy who wants to get the girl but is too cute, shy and awkward".

It worked for George Michael Bluth.

It failed the next 30 or so times.

Aw, c'mon guys, he was great in Zombieland.
I wonder how many Zombieland autographs he's signed...

This movie is going to be so awesome. The red band trailer was all the convincing I needed. Not even Nic Cage can ruin a movie that has a foul-mouthed 11 year old killing machine shooting people in the face to the strains of a punk rock cover of the Banana Splits theme.

2010-03-15 03:11:20 PM
I'm just afraid that it'll be overhyped, and I'll be sick of it by the time it comes out in theaters.
Or I could just not pay attention. That might work, too.

Swing and a miss. I'm not attracted to the 12-year-olds. I'm attracted to the ladies who kick ass. However, this character is not a lady. She is a girl. That is inherently unattractive and weird.

Although my friends think my crush on Winona Ryder is because she looks like a teenage boy.

Got to go to a preview screening of this about a week ago.

There are a couple of big changes from the comic. I won't be spoiling anything (since only those who have already spoiled it by reading the comic will get this) but the big reveal about Big Daddy is gone--he's actually got a real motivation now. I understand why they did it, but preferred the greater farked-up-ness of the comic book's version.

Also, the main character [moderate spoiler in light text follows] does get the girl, which is kind of dumb, but again I understand why they did it.

Despite the changes, the movie captured the spirit of the comic very well, and was farking funny as hell.

dragon927: Love the comic, cautiously optimistic about the movie, despite the Nic Cage curse.

Nic Cage is awesome in it. I was worried, too. He's good.

/ They wanted comments afterward.

I didn't find the comic terribly compelling. Millar used a lot of naughty words and violence that are normally verboten in comics for no better reason than to use naughty words and violence.

I liked the comic book version of Wanted, and Millar's Ultimates, both of which used a more naturalistic setting, but Kick Ass felt more like an extended Andrew Dice Clay joke.

I'll probably see it in the theater anyway. I suspect that was the true medium for that particular story.

Luckily, there are still plenty of people like myself who are still thorougly amused by little kids using vulgar language.

I can't wait for the conservative parent outrage once the mainstream media gets a hold of this movie.

Motherf*ckers!

When I first read it, I was like, "WTF? You've got to be kidding me," but when you think about it, that's the scene that ties the whole book together.

Without that, it's just a masturbatory fanboy fantasy.

Much like The Dude's rug.

Anyway.

Yeah, the fact that there are now actual heroes in the movie destroys any sort of message or point (no matter how lame) it might once have had, but damned if a little girl calling a bunch of guys "coonts" then killing them in interesting ways isn't still awesome.

I wouldn't call it great by any means, but it's a fun little movie. See it at matinee prices and you probably won't feel like you got ripped off.

That's adorable. It also, is coming out this year as a big budget picture, helmed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) and starring...

Micheal Cera.
