No, he had a stroke that caused ischemic damage to a particular area of the prefrontal cortex, and now he can't say "no" to a sales pitch, although I suppose "cell death" could be euphemized as "altered brain chemistry."

This sort of thing is pretty creepy, too. Often, the patient will be able to verbally tell you that doing X is wrong/self-destructive/etc. but they can't stop themselves from doing it without that inhibitory part of the brain that actually generates the "how about no?" signal.
