9 1/2 minutes long and um... pretty NSFW. Lots of WTF, though.

Does "WTF" in this context mean "exposed herma penis?"

/would rather spend 9 1/2 minutes picking grandma's scabs...

What's NOT to like about that video?

2010-03-14 11:01:22 PM
I'm not big on the song, but the video was hilarious.

2010-03-14 11:01:35 PM
That video is the very definition of "trying too hard."

BravadoGT: Does "WTF" in this context mean "exposed herma penis?"

Funny you should mention that. Watch the opening 2-3 minutes.

MTV is so AOL.

And Kill Bill made MUCH better use of that pickup truck.

Lame, derivative, and WHY is she considered popular again?

DarkJohnson: MTV is so AOL.

LOL.

I loved Telephone, I just want to say. It's hilarious, full of craziness and product placements (and sci-fi references!), and most importantly, it's set in lesbian fashion-biker prison.

Let's make a sandwich!

Can Gaga just not dance or act for shiat, or was that intended? Also, I love that all of her music videos are basically just commercials and no one cares.

2010-03-14 11:18:30 PM
Meh. Who cares.

2010-03-14 11:18:35 PM
I love the fact that they smack around MTV quite a few times in the text, and then have the video embedded at the bottom of the page..

MTV, time to die.

2010-03-14 11:21:29 PM
I can just watch porn.

The music is better too.

WTF as in, there was more than one scene that made me do the head-cocked-sideways thing where I question what had to happen to you in your life to make you think that that would be a good idea and something people would find entertaining.

/would definitely rather watch a video than pick anyone's scabs.

Because she's the most interesting thing going in pop music right now.

Probably because she IS popular?

Well, that was just an ugly turd of a thing. Beyonce looks adorable with the retro make-up but otherwise what a waste of time and effort. I should have helped BravadoGT with those scabs.

That's part of it. The act is all about the whole oversold glam-whore pop thing. Marylin Manson tried it after Antichrist Superstar, but couldn't pull it off. Lady GaGa is everything we've seen from mainstream music in the last decade exaggerated, and the best part is, people buy into it. People love her for it thinking she's "a visionary", and people hate her for it thinking that "she's talentless", but really she knows exactly what the fark she's doing. It's just theater.

...and she's got more money than any of us ever will.

Wish I'd thought of it and could sing. Better than answering phones with drug addicts calling about insurance questions for 9 hours a day.

/nope, no dick
//you WANT her to have a dick

Did she tell you this herself or is this conveyed somewhere in interviews or press releases?
Also ... Manson did a REALLY good job with his bit .. It just got tired and boring. I suspect the same thing will happen with Gaga. Of course, people still worship Madonna, so what do I know?

2010-03-14 11:58:05 PM
Her music is fun, over-the-top and I find it entertaining. Not all music has to be Serious Business.

Having just watched this, muted, and marking the only time I've ever seen anything with Lady Gaga in it I feel quite certain about saying she is today's answer to (young)Madonna.

Manson's a poser. His act is all about shock. Gaga is more about stimulation. She's the natural heir to performers like David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Micheal Jackson, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. If she can reinvent herself once a decade or so, she has more than enough talent to be around 30 years from now.

I liked it, Mtv blew it, as usual.
Why is Mtv relevant? Oh wait, they aren't.....

I don't think she's that, but as someone who is forced to listen to Top 40 music for eight hours a day at work, she is a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of that crap.

I will find Owl City and bomb it one day. And that "Hey soul sister, ain't that Mister Mister on the rad-o" band must all die in a horrific fire.

No, I wasn't told this, but it's the first interesting and creative thing I've seen come out of pop music since "Thriller", and after all the BS that's been churned out I can;t help but believe that this is, to a large extent, a tongue-in-cheek exaggeration, a reflection of the pop world back on itself.

Wikipedia seems to suggest that her act started out in NYC clubs as "[a] live performance art piece known as 'Lady Gaga and the Starlight Revue'. Billed as 'The Ultimate Pop Burlesque Rockshow', their act was a low-fi tribute to 1970s variety acts." Seems to me it started as an exaggerated fashion show and evolved to what it is today from there; a tribute to pop whores. Maybe I'm wrong, but at least it's worth debating, unlike every other canned pop star who it's just like "ugh not again".

PS: Manson didn't have a very convincing act going after Antichrist. The whole concept of that album down to the smallest details, the lyrics, artwork, videos, and even the sound engineering are dead on. One of my favorite albums, ever.

After all that, it just felt like he was trying too hard to out-do what he'd already done, and it cheapened the experience. Happens all too often in music. Mechanical Animals was a no-go for me, and I haven't looked back since.

Lady Gaga makes cranky old men even crankier. And yes, she is more about spectacle than music.

/Pokerface is a good song though

This seems to boiled down Lady Gaga's appeal: Her following is under-exposed to decent music. Image aside, I don't really hear anything in Lady Gaga that isn't being done by another faceless popstar.

Ain't that the truth. Aside from her and Orianthi, there's a whole lot of crap right now.

Mentat: nd Orianthi,

And Orianthi should be presented as a straight up rocker and leave it at that, she plays guitar more than well enough.

Is it the worst video of all time, OF ALL TIME?

Too bad it's not a good song.

2010-03-15 01:11:37 AM
I'd hit it.

2010-03-15 01:14:40 AM
That offends people? I guess Madonna was a pioneer.

Thank god the armed forces are out there protecting us against this type of stuff!

I'm sure there will be plenty of them in this thread. I'd like to know too.

Owl City, there's someone to hate.

The way it sounds to me, she basically took some NYC-gay-club-DJ-happy-druggie-electronic-dance stuff, arranged it to pop standard verse-chorus-verse-chorus (or what have you) format, put some pop hooks into the chorus, laid the vocals over it, and voila.

And yes, that's still way better than the other top 40 stuff.

Same here. She's like the Sarah Palin of music. Some people like her, the rest bash her.

She's amusing, but I can't say I have any interest in actually listening to anything else of hers. It just isn't the kind of music I'm interested in. That being said it is nice to see something interesting in the pop industry.

Let me guess, you agree with Homer that music achieved perfection in 1974. (It's a scientific fact).

She tries to say she doesn't have a dick by..........not showing her face and showing a blurred vagina? Sure, Mr. Gaga. I believe you.
