"I don't know what it is," Desmarais said. "It's not soluble, and it doesn't appear to be sodium fluoride. So we are not quite sure what it is."

My guess is lead sulfate. It's a white powder poorly soluble in water and by mass is mostly China's favorite export.

THIS.

Sometimes, buying from the lowest bidder is OK. But sometimes, usually when the lowest bidder is a Chinese firm, you might want to pay a little more and get the product elsewhere. One of those "sometimes' is when you or someone you care about plans to ingest the product.

That's ridicurous.

Do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream.

If people are paranoid about the sodium flouride maybe they should, I don't know, test it first?

Luckily, Amesbury was able to interpret these feelings correctly.

Nazi's were the first to use fluoride in prison camps to subdue the populace. Studies also show that in communities with heavy fluoride treatment there is a huge increase in teeth mottling, bone fractures, etc...

Tell me again how ingested Fluoride travels though the bloodstream in high enough levels to be absorbed and then excreted by the saliva glands? And that it won't affect any other organ systems in the process?

I'll take my Fluoride topically, please.

Anti-fluoridation nuts are awesome. Without water flouridation, tooth decay would be our highest health care cost, affecting mainly the poor. Combine that with racism against the Chinese and you get something truly beautiful.

You'll have to answer to the Coca Cola CompanyWorld Trade Organization

(Not sure about this, but I don't think we can simply just refuse import their exports.)

Uh, duh. This is what I am saying about topical application. Kids and adults get plenty of Fluoride via toothpaste, gels and rinses that they don't need to have that extra 1 ppm bump in their drinking water. This isn't 1920 anymore; everybody can get plenty of Fluoride now.

You're right. We shouldn't put anything in our water at all. We should just gulp it down straight from natural, completely untainted sources. Oh wait....

Sodium fluoride isn't really meant to continually ingested. It is toxic and that's not just conspiracy gobbleygook. The containers have poison labels on them at the toothpaste manufacturing plants. Kids who have eaten toothpaste have died from fluoride poisoning, which is why there's a warning on toothpaste tubes. It's also a byproduct of aluminium smelting, which for some reason I don't find appetizing.

Fano, it can make your teeth stronger. Fluoride is more electonegative than Calcium, and it replaces the Ca in the hydroxyapetite molecule, making the hydroxyapetite more resistant to acidic breakdown.

At least, that's how it works on paper. In real life, people can't bother to wipe the schmutz off their teeth every morning and then they get pissed when they get a cavity thinking that the magic of Fluoride would have saved them.

Everyone gets fluoride in toothpaste these days. There's no need for it in water. Well, infants and toddlers don't get it, the "baby" toothpaste has no fluoride because they tend to swallow the toothpaste and sodium fluoride can kill or seriously harm a child. That's what all the child care books say, that's what dentists and doctors say, and that's what the side of the toothpaste tube/package says. It's poisonous to ingest.

For your city should go through the trouble to fluoridate the water for the very small percentage who don't brush...that just seems like a waste of money.

This, except you meant hydroxide, not calcium. Calcium and fluoride have neither the same charge, nor magnitude. Fluoride and hydroxide, however, both have single negative charges and are much more chemically similar.
