I'm gonna show up at those trails 4:30 in the morning, and lay my beach towel across the path, to reserve the trail before any Germans get there.

If I remember correctly, German hikers used to do that a lot in Switzerland. Well, they banned it, so now they apparently had to find another place.

Although I don't know why the writer mixed nude sunbathers (mostly young, somewhat attractive students) in the English Garden in Munich with the FKK nudists (shriveld 40+ somethings)...

As a nudist, I must agree with you.

It sounds great, in theory; until, that is, you run into a patch of chiggers, or you walk too close to a stagnant pool of water, or you fail to notice that thorny vine dangling loosely into the trail in front of you.

Yeah, not good times.

Yeah, I really enjoy being nude, and I like being nude in large groups of nude people. I really do, call me a naturist freak or whatever. But hiking? I just think the bits that are flippy floppy would get all chaffed and sore after all the flipping and flopping. And archery? Have you ever done archery and had a string graze across your chest because you weren't paying attention? If you have ta-tas (yes I have ta-tas!!)that get zapped by the string and you're not wearing a sports bra, your nips will get zipped. OUCH!!

Clothes are necessary for protection; protection from the sun & wind, birds pooping, stinging and biting animals & insects, & the perv with chloroform. They also provide support. Imagine the rash/blister/chafed skin down there after your scrotum rubs back and forth on a nice 10 mile hike.

I don't WANT people to see my surgery scars, 40 pound beer belly, flabby body tone, ass acne, and generalized hirsutness (aside from the Becker's pigmented hairy nevi on my back).

This. I don't know what the woods in Germany are like, but there's no way in hell I'm going hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains with no clothes on. Recipe for disaster.

No kidding. I love to make fun of movies where the people go out on a multi-day hike dressed in short shorts and tank tops, with a little tiny bottle of water. It might look good for the audience, but it's just plain stupid.



This is an appropriate outfit when you're planning on hiking in the Australian outback for a few days. In the movies.
