more than just one cop. it sounds like the whole department is bigoted

2010-03-13 04:46:06 PM
"Police officers, who said they spotted the marriage license on the kitchen table through a window of Newsome's home"farking peeping toms Pigs

2010-03-13 04:46:32 PM
And BTW. saw the license through the window, my ass.
they either broke into their home or straight out lied.

the officers violated her privacy when they informed the military about her sexual orientation.

Isn't marriage a public record? And doesn't the military ask about that sort of thing regardless?

2010-03-13 04:50:23 PM
Wow...so it's not "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" it's "Don't Ask, Cross Your Fingers Someone Else Doesn't Make It Their Business To Tell."

2010-03-13 04:52:56 PM
Wait. So let me get this straight. There are senseless, in bred bigots in South Dakota?
/sad

2010-03-13 04:53:29 PM
FTA: "He said his department does not seek to expose gay military personnel or investigate the sexuality of Rapid City residents."

Gotta love that kind of Newspeak. They didn't seek to expose gay military personnel or investigate the sexuality of residents. Instead, they just do it.

2010-03-13 05:09:49 PM
FTFA "It's an emotional issue and it's unfortunate that Newsome lost her job, but I disagree with the notion that our department might be expected to ignore the license, or not document the license, or withhold it from the Air Force once we did know about it," Allender said Saturday. "It was a part of the case, part of the report and the Air Force was privileged to the information."

And i'm sure that will make PERFECT sense when they get to try and explain this to a judge in the ensuing civil rights case...

2010-03-13 05:10:34 PM
It doesn't read like this was the act of a "bigot cop" per se - not that the cops couldn't have all been bigots. It sounds like she pissed them off by not dropping everything to rush to assist them in arresting her wife, so they felt like they needed a little petty farking revenge.

Fark 'em, either way.

2010-03-13 05:18:24 PM
Doesn't everyone just happen to leave their marriage license on the kitchen table in front of a window?

Are you defending bigotry or inbreeding?

Now THAT is some low, despicable shiat.

LordOfThePings: And by equating bigotry and inbreeding, you demonstrate your tolerance and enlightenment?

I'm pretty vocally opposed to both bigotry and inbreeding so ... Um ... Wat? Also, I never claimed to be enlightened. I've just never allowed myself to become endarkened is more to the point.

Leave the poor inbreds alone. Bigots are guilty of bigotry. The inbred are guilty of nothing - it's their forebears what couldn't resist the siren song of their sexy siblings.

Lesbian? That's hot. discrimination on the cops part... and hot

Inbreeding. No wait, bigotry. No, wait...

I guess you caught me. Or was that a serious question?

aimtastic: the siren song of their sexy siblings.

That should be a Primus or Revolting Cocks lyric.

Once again - never ever never ever trust a cop. they do. not. work. for. us.

if a cop asks you questions - ANY questions - lawyer up. say nothing. If he threatens, ask for a lawyer. say. nothing.

there is simply no reason to trust a cop anymore. even the good ones (which do exist). it's just that our system of laws forces us not to trust the police.

Not if the case is heard in South Dakota.

I just hope they don't cancel the Air Force Prom now.

Mmmmmm... lesbian discharge.

In a slightly related question, since gay marriage is legal in IA but not on a federal level, if someone was gay married in IA and their spouse was brought up on federal charges, would spousal privilege apply?

Everything I know about the law, I learned from Law and Order.

2010-03-13 05:56:10 PM
She not going to win a lawsuit for invasion of privacy. An Iowa marriage license is open to public inspection. There is no liability for disclosing facts which are a matters of public record.

2010-03-13 05:57:14 PM
To paraphrase Chris Rock, let them fight, cause I ain't fighting. To defend my country, sure. To set up a no bid contract to increase the Vice President's stock, no. Let the dykes serve. They're probably tougher than the guys.

borg: Not if the case is heard in South Dakota.

Because it's not like it's possible to appeal to the point of a national level or anything, particularly in sketchy possible civil rights suits... that NEVER happens..

Another casualty of this senseless policy of Obama's.

I would tell you to ask skinnyhead, but everything he knows he learned from L&O, as well. Except he didn't really pay attention, and was busy jacking it to fred thompson.

According to Federal Law (Defense of Marraige Act, signed by Clinton), no, they would not. Of course, that is not to say that the Supreme Court could not find that law unconstitutional.

2010-03-13 06:04:49 PM
If the cops were trying to get her to give up her wife's location, they could've, I dunno, threatened to tell the Air Force? I don't think DADT is supposed to be enforced by local police... The cops' actions were just unnecessary, adding insult to injury.

Oh she won't win a criminal case, that's for sure. But she's got one HELL of a civil suit. she can hit the cops for all kinds of damages.

That law is blatantly in violation of Full Faith and Credit, I can't imagine why it hasn't been found unconstitutional, unless it hasn't been challenged.

I hope they can show that they also tell the Air Force when they find out that heterosexuals are married. Because as soon as it is proven that the police held the lesbians out to a different standard it will be game over.

And how did command not think this would come back and bite them in the butt? You'd think these small town's insurance companies would mandate that all chiefs of police departments take a "this may get us sued" common sense class.

The answer is maybe. Federal Rules of Evidence says that privileges are to be determined by "principles of the common law as they may be interpreted by the courts of the United States in the light of reason and experience." DOMA does not necessarily apply to the definition of marriage at common law.

Lost Thought 00: Another casualty of this senseless policy of Obama's.

Wait a second, I'm confused. A policy enacted in 1993 (or was it 1994?) by Clinton and one that Obama is trying to repeal is suddenly Obama's policy?

2010-03-13 06:27:01 PM
Who the fark can read the fine print on a marriage license sitting on a table when peeping through a window? Sure it depends on the layout of the room but if the table was even a few feet away it would be nearly impossible.

I look forward to the cops proving the super-vision in court.

It is Obama's policy until it is no longer a policy under Obama.

Yeah, sure there are good cops. Next you're gonna tell me how Man walked on the Moon or how some guy pitched a perfect game in the World Series.

There are probably more moonwalkers and perfect-game pitchers than there are "good" cops.

they had no business doing that. some cops are going to lose their jobs over this before it's all over with.

And like magic, because they took action, the bigot cops are no longer living in a wind-blown arctic hell-hole rife with rug-munchers defending their country.
