Somewhere before the L I would imagine.

Truth hurts, eh, precious little snowflake?

/I'd kick the biatches arse if it was my kid
//however, it isn't so I find it amusing as hell

That screenshot, not even having viewed the video made me laugh hysterically. I bet the kid was one of those students who does a bare minimum amount of work, interrupts class, and always farks around thereby ruining everybody's learning.

Maybe he deserved it
Just sayin'

2010-03-13 12:51:06 PM
Kid probably deserved it. But you can't do things that obvious. Gotta be more clever.

2010-03-13 12:51:29 PM
Maybe the kid was suicidal, and the teacher was an enabler?

That's unpossible! All children are perfect little miracles that must be nurtured and encouraged at all times!

Maybe this teacher will start charging idiot tax at his new minimum wage retail job

2010-03-13 12:52:54 PM
This is the kind of thing teachers are supposed to say to one another. Not to the student.

/I cut out a histogram from a student's paper once and kept it.
//It had one bin. With a count of one. Oh and the bin was labeled '1'.

2010-03-13 12:53:26 PM
well probability is on the teachers side on this one... most kids today are in fact, losers.

Truth hurts -- welcome to the real world. Maybe if everyone didn't have a stick up their ass they'd see maybe the teacher was trying to get a point across and motivate the kid to stop being a loser.

2010-03-13 12:54:33 PM
I'm withholding judgement until I learn whether or not the kid is in fact, a loser.

2010-03-13 12:56:01 PM
Did the child do incredibly poorly on the assignment? I had a sixth grade teacher tell me straight to my face that I would never accomplish my goals if I kept doing poorly on my schoolwork. So I did marginally better and got lucky enough to have my dream job. :)

/high five

PS: Other parents are OK with this, and he says it's his was of joking with his students. Sounds like one parent is overreacting.

Your missing the obvious irony: people who end up teachers are losers.

At least he didn't write "looser".

Come on, the teacher said he was just kidding.

/O K I suck at this ..

you learn nothing from victory only from failure do we learn lessons.

2010-03-13 12:57:34 PM
I think the teacher should be commended. There are a lot of kids out there that would benefit from such blunt honesty instead of being told how special they are.

2010-03-13 12:57:35 PM
The child scored a 20% on an assignment. They either have to be actively trying to do awfully or not do the assignment.

This argument always pisses me off. Hurling negative labels and insults at someone is not a motivation. Giving fat people shiat about their size isn't "motivation", it's you being a farking jackass. Giving a farking 6th grader shiat about a bad grade is the teacher being a farking jackass.

Motivation is a positive thing.

I don't know about the kid's behavior, but she looks like a sweet little 9 year-old girl. Generally, little girls aren't the monsters that little boys are.

Generally.

That said, I don't think deducting 20% from a little girl's grade because she's a "loser" is either fair or justifiable. If the paper had been riddled with spelling errors, factually incorrect, or outside the guidelines of the assignment, yes, that's grounds for -20%. But because the girl is a loser? He should be dragged out into the school yard and duct taped to a flagpole.

I had a math teacher in 9th grade who did this kind of stuff. Somehow, he got the impression that I was a stoner idiot, and nothing would change his mind. There were three of us in the class that he picked out for this kind of "special treatment," and he would always say shiatty things about us in the story problems on tests. For Red Ribbon Week, he went out of his way to tell the class that I would not be required to participate in activities, as he knew I didn't believe in saying "no" to drugs.

One of his clever catch-phrases was "TheyCallThisWork . . . You're an idiot."

This came to a head when he sent a progress report saying I was in danger of failing the class, a class in which I had something like a 99% average!

2010-03-13 01:06:07 PM
the school administration allows the kid to torment the teacher day after day, and so the teacher strikes back. Big surprise. The kid deserved it, I am sure.

Yeah I wish I could say something like this to some of the undergrads that shuffle through here. I get students coming in, 'Oh, I need a better grade, I have to pass, cause I need this class for med school!'.

The proper response to this would be, 'At this point, you can't get into med school. If you are borderline failing an undergraduate course, no matter what it is, then your other grades are probably so bad that you'd never be accepted. And if you find an undergrad course that hard, then you probably wouldn't make it through med school even if you got in.'

But nobody ever tells them this. I mean, the advisors could dress it up and deliver it nicely, right? But they never do. And I'm not supposed to.

As a catholic school grad I'm getting a kick out of these responses..

The teacher was probably beaten up by a girl when he was 9 years old. It was either teaching or conservative politics.

2010-03-13 01:08:02 PM
Yeah, so what? I wrote loser on your homework assignment. What are you gonna do about it? You think anyone's gonna believe you? You think anyone is gonna take your word over mine? I'm a man of respect around here. They love me around here. I'm a swell guy. You're a lying sack of shiat and everybody knows it.

2010-03-13 01:08:44 PM
One of my high school teachers had a set of big red stamps. One was "Loser." Another was "Failure." He had ones that said "Retread," "Massive Brain Damage Apparent," and even one that simply said "Idiot."

He didn't use them on people that were obviously trying, but for those who didn't... Well, their page would be red all over. The school board reprimanded him for it and told him that he couldn't do that any more. And since he didn't have tenure, he had to quit or lose his job.

he was a fun guy that actually cared, too. If you wanted help, he'd stay hours and hours after school to make sure you got it. But just fark around and not do your homework... He had no time to waste on you.

Motivation is a positive thing.

/yes, i know, i sound fat

Go watch Full Metal Jacket (the first 1/2 at least) and tell me Gunny didn't motivate Pvt. Pyle to get his fat ass moving sometimes. The fat argument... meh, if you actually want to lose weight and are smart enough to realize someone is trying to help you, then you shouldn't care if someone is telling you to get your fatass moving.

And motivation is not always a positive thing, proff? The scared straight program that a lot of juvenile programs have. the D.A.R.E. program that was at my school used a lot of fear based and "negative consequence" things to keep kids from going out and smoking crack, blah blah blah. If the end result is you doing better on a test, not smoking crack, or losing weight, who cares how it's achieved?

If the kid and his wacko parents are taking this seriously, all they are teaching the kid is that if you don't like someone says to you, just cry and biatch really loud until someone gives you what you want. That's a pretty good definition of LOSER to me.

Not sure is serious, but I'm thinking that the -20% was for mistakes in spelling, grammar, and style and not for "being a loser". He most likely just tacked it on at the top to be "humorous," yanno, because she made all those mistakes, that means she's a loser.

/Would never call my students losers. I might think it; I'll just never say it to their faces.
