Welcome to the Nanny State. This happens all the time there. The victims are considered the criminals and the real criminals go free.

Meh. The Daily Fail.

Sussex police said Mr Miah should have 'observed from a safe distance' before dialling 999.

The spokesman said: 'On no account should any attempt at aggression be made as this could easily escalate into violence.'

So it's come to that in the UK. You no longer have the right to prevent your property from being taken. You have to watch "from a safe distance" while your stuff is stolen, and await the authorities to come and "make inquiries". Judging from the band of idiots outside, I can guarantee that "nobody saw nothin', guvnor".

And you really, truly think that this is better than being able to defend self and property? Yes, we have a higher rate of murder in the States, but guess what? Ours continues to fall as we strengthen the rights of LEGAL gun owners to protect their own lives and property with deadly force. You now have higher rates of burglary, assault, and larceny, and a state which actively considers the criminal's rights to be more important than the rights of victims.

Toodle-oo.

Dman what happened to the UK, it seems that if you practice any sort of self-defense or defense of your property the police see you has the criminal.

yobs is a rather silly word

At least here you could sue the shiat out of the moron that arrested you, can't he sue too? This is absurd, cops and judges should be out on their ass with a good tasing to boot for such lack of common sense.

Vampire_Blues: yobs is a rather silly word

Yet it sounds so sinister. I could live 1000 years happy without meeting a yob. Really.

Sounds like California.

I guarantee you if someone breaks in to my house, and especially if they're anywhere near my daughter's room, I will take a trophy to their skull or die trying.

However, if I do not die trying, I will likely end up in jail for it while the criminal later sues me for "pain and suffering" or some other BS.

yeah sounds like our wigger problem here in the US. Oh how I wish we could have a special "death panel" for yobs and wiggers, wastes of human life all of them.

Easy solution: Make sure they don't live to sue you. If I ever have to shoot a robber/gunman/highwayman/psycho, it will be in the head. If I miss, I will shoot again until I DO get the head.

So being a criminal in the UK is like the perfect job then?

Yep.

People fail to realize that simple theft doesn't give you the legal authority to assault somebody.

mauricecano: Dman what happened to the UK, it seems that if you practice any sort of self-defense or defense of your property the police see you has the criminal.

Sure: If you can defend yourself you might not need so many police, and the associated taxes that support them. At core I think this is what many of the nanny state pols fear most: that people might wake up one day and find that we really don't need them after all.

The lesson is clear. Cops are worthless ALL OVER THE GLOBE! Never call them, handle your problems yourself. If the criminals complain simply deny everything and insist that the oinkers arrest the accusers.

Exactly. This is essentially why the policy is so farked up. It encourages people to take the law into their own hands. Why call the cops if it's just going to get you into trouble? You might as well just beat the shiat out of the robbers and be done with it.

I'm not an especially violent person in real life. I'm pretty much a coward like most of you, I'm sure. But if this sort of thing became normal I'd have to just get a gun. In any situation like this I'd just shoot to kill and claim self defense.

what a surprise the firefighter hates cops. (Not knocking you or your profession... just sayin)

But yeah, I remember a case in Texas where a guy lined up a couple home intruders and killed them execution style... that was wrong. This was probably not that.

I don't really hate cops, they're like everyone else just looking for maximum pay with minimum effort. I, however, DO hate some of their antics and would only call them as a last resort.

Moral of the story: Beat the shiat out of said yobs and don't call the police.

There are going to be a lot of people in this thread that are going support the police action and note "People fail to realize that simple theft doesn't give you the legal authority to assault somebody." Or something to similar effect.

However, what these people fail to understand is that in situations like this if the "victim" doesn't step in and do something personally then there is a very high likelihood of the thief getting away. By the time the police arrive the criminal is long gone and they sure aren't going to waste a ton of manpower over a few cases of beer or similar low profile theft.

The problem is the criminals know this. They therefore have very little reason to NOT engage in petty crime. Even when caught by the police, and convicted, they are likely to get a very light sentence. This creates an opportunity for steadily increasing crime because of the low risk nature of the environment.

The only thing that will PREVENT crime is to make the risk outweigh the potential benefit. If the consequences of getting caught are bad enough then the rate of that crime will go down as more and more people realize it just isn't worth it.

Who's house is more likely to suffer a break in? The elderly unarmed guy that lives in an area with bad police response and light criminal sentencing? Or the crazy former spec-ops gun nut with 2 pistols on him at all times and a history of violent psychosis living in a state that supports "strong personal defense"?

If the cost of committing crime in the UK was higher, with a higher likelihood of getting caught, then their crime rate would drop a significant amount.

TL;DR version - Let "victims" deal with criminals a little more harshly and you'd get less crime. And no, I'm not supporting the idea of shooting people for stealing a case of beer. But if you catch some punk stealing from you the least you should be allowed to do is detain him until the police get there.

/Although if they shot beer stealers there sure would be a lot less of it getting stolen.

Move to Florida and buy a gun. If you kill one person while he's committing a felony, his friends who are helping him will get charged with his murder.

On a slightly different note, a business owner ran a thief over with his SUV "on accident" a couple years ago and a jury acquitted him.

There's a lot of FAIL in Florida, but if you break the law and something bad happens to you, you're pretty much up shiat creek.

2010-03-13 02:37:09 AM
This is why I will not hesitate to use my bat and the butt of my gun in disciplining any criminal that has the misfortune to cross my path. If I'm going to be arrested i'm going to make it count. and then some...
