They should've used Congress Avenue Bridge bats seeing as its The Nat'l Zoo near Congress and all.

I don't understand why mesh fencing with holes too big kills bats. I also do not understand how to hold a bat to avoid hurting it or stabbing myself with a needle. That is why I'm not a bat expert, the zoo should have listened to their expert rather then letting some idiot with a vet degree just make stuff the fark up.

/bonus points for acting like they expected dead bats

good. Because they would probably end up like the black squirrels
Link (new window)
and invade my neighborhood (live directly across Conn Ave from main Zoo entrance). And than the overly fortified uphill challenged Real Americans (fat people from the mid-west)who feed the squirrels and such and then twaddle off would leave me with another species that tries to break into my apartment.

Yes, I know I'm going to get shiat for the "black squirrels" but the farkers chew through window screen and invade like nobodies business

died as a result of "...ignorance and incompetence." Ouch. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Very sad. We're losing bats and amphibians - both on our side in the war against really annoying things.

This time last year, I had a bat living in my bathroom. ("Bat"-room, we called it. Get it?) His name was Echo and we kept him in a cage there all winter. Sometimes bats get un-hibernated in the wintertime and they starve to death. My wife is a biologist who studied bats for her master's degree and she knew how to take care of him. We fed him mealworms and other things all winter and finally let him go when the weather got warm enough.

And that's my bat story.

Not sure if serious cat.

We have bats that live in the shutters of our house. Last summer one of our cats decided to wait for them on the porch. You see when they would fly out they would be very low to the porch. The little bastard killed at least three of them. I had never wanted to kill a cat before I met this one.

/I know, I know, cool story.

This reminds me of the story on Fark about a guy who had 700 turtles on his property, something like that, and was raising them and taking care of them. He'd had them for years, but suddenly the state came in and told him that he didn't have the right permits to keep that many turtles or some damn thing. They took all the turtles and turned them over to the state wildlife people.

Well, the guy sued and by the time the case had made its way through the courts, all but about 10 of his turtles were dead. And some of them were rare species. The wildlife people didn't know how to take care of them and refused to let anyone else come in who did know.

Ah, here it is. I got a lot of the details wrong, but this is the original story.
