(ABC) Interesting The milkman is returning, which is great news for shut-ins, horny housewives, not such good news for little Karen. I hate you, Milkman Dan   (abcnews.go.com) divider line 87

I remember getting milk delivered in a small town in Montana in the late '70s. I was just a kid. We had a metal milk box right outside the front door, and the milkman would put two half-gallon bottles in it a couple of times a week. Never thought much about it until the service went away.

allegedman: do they take retards to the zoo?

Not in these economic times; too expensive.

They take them to the laundromat and give them Methodist coloring books instead.

They should hire a few females to deliver some of the milk (gotta keep it equal for the feminists) so that the horny househusbands can have their fun as well. Maybe a friendly farker could show what a milkwoman delivering milk to a horny househusband might look like.

Linux_Yes: they pump those birds full of so much shhhittt and then WE eat it.

Speak for yourself^
It's very local to my area only, but man oh man. Each cut of meat has the name of the farmer who raised the beast and the date of the slaughter. Of course, to the casual observer, it might be alarming to open someone's freezer and see a big chunk of meat that says "Rick Olufs 01/11/2010"

And while it might seem like a bit to pay $540.00 for 75lbs of meat, it's very good meat, hand raised, and on par with the stuff I pay $10+ a lb for at the highend butcher shop down the road.

Plus they also offer fresh farm milk and eggs ;)

Wait, how does having your milk delivered to you in a glass jar mean it doesn't have additives or hormones or whatever else people are terrified of having in their milk?

And isn't glass harder to recycle than the plastic jugs most milk comes in from the grocery thus kind of nullifying any environmental or all-natural hippy-perceived benefit?

For that matter, how is having my milk delivered to me at all a convenience if I have to buy fifteen friggin dollars worth of it (and pay $20) at a time and then still have to make a biweekly trip to the grocery store to buy everything else? Who drinks $15 worth of milk fast enough to drink it all before it goes bad? I have hard enough time getting through a $5 jug before the expiration date between 2 grown adults.

Even if they're delivering the milk at night, isn't it still warm enough outside in NY (at least during the summer) that leaving the milk out for a few hours going to significantly shorten the fridge life? What about heat waves - do you get a refund if it's so warm out that the milk actually spoils before you get to it?

I just don't get how this is at all a useful service.

Jolly Rancher: And isn't glass harder to recycle than the plastic jugs most milk comes in from the grocery thus kind of nullifying any environmental or all-natural hippy-perceived benefit?

Seriously? Are you joking? The milkman delivers fresh milk in bottles and takes away the old bottles to be cleaned and refilled. Some major cities have organic milk companies that do the same thing, but you just pay a $1-$2 bottle deposit at the grocery store and get it back when you return it.

Gee Mister, if only we could afford the technology to print things at our own homes. Won't technology be swell one day.
