We have a local team with a bout tomorrow, might have to make a trip out and see what's up.

Wonder if you have to be a particularly skilled skater, like hockey players, or just basically be able to keep your balance and keep going?

A good friend of mine did it for a while, practice 3 nights a week with several levels of skill tests to be able to actually compete. Crap like being able to jump over fallen skaters while skating backwards at a moment's notice. So particularly skilled.

Same thing across the country. The current national champions is a team the has multiple world record holders for speed skating.

Wait, this actually exists? It has like a real league or something? It's not just a gimmick found in movies? Is it a prescripted kayfabe entertainment act, like wrestling?

What's the rules? What do you do in it? Is there a male roller derby league? ....I don't get what the challenge is. Just about any NHL-level skater could probably zip around that thing in 10 seconds and knock everyone down easily, Hanson Bros. style.

Can someone fill me in on how this works?

Yes. Yes, there are a few, depending on how the league is set up. I'm with a flat-track league with WFTDA, there are other leagues for other styles of play. There are rules, and there are also male-only derby leagues.

It's not a pre-scripted kayfabe event, like wrestling. It's a real sport with real rules and real injuries.

I could talk to you about it for days, but honestly I'd just crack open the Google and find a local bout. The season is starting up just about everywhere in North America (apologies if you're not there). You will almost certainly have a fantastic time.

lets be realistic guys...some are attractive, but not all or many. Some of those roller girls are down right mid west big shoulder scary.

You can always find a diamond in the rough though. Just like how surprisingly Georgia Tech does occasionally have an attractive female.
