Gotta be a rapper...

Redwing: Gotta be a rapper...

and an East Coast one at that.

I'm going with 50-Cent.

On April 24, 2000, Jackson (50-Cent) was attacked by a gunman, alleged to be Darryl "Hommo" Baum, outside his grandmother's former home in South Jamaica, Queens. He went into a friend's car, but was asked to return to the house to get jewelry.

Says "shot" and not "killed".

And I think the movie was Get Rich or Die Tryin', so it all fits.

Tupac?

I think he lived in his grandma's house, so it doesn't quite fit.

The area also looks cleaner than I'd expect Queens to be....

I was thinking Biggie Smalls, but I think he only got shot the one time that mattered...

Yeah, she was in Jamaica, Queens which isn't really a land of apartment houses. It's more like Archie Bunker's house-and-house-and-house kind of neighborhood.

So now I don't know.

boo got shot boo got shot

2010-03-12 12:45:18 PM
Larry Flynt?

2010-03-12 12:49:07 PM
john lennon?

2010-03-12 12:50:25 PM
I want to say John Lennon too, but was there ever a Hollywood movie about Lennon?

2010-03-12 12:51:13 PM
Lincoln? Have there been any movies about him?
How about Kennedy?
Reagan? He was IN lots of movies.
These contests suck. I never win even though I obviously have the best guesses.

2010-03-12 12:51:37 PM
One step at a time: can we make an educated guess about where that is? For example the no parking signs don't look like the ones in Chicago to me.

2010-03-12 12:51:40 PM
Larry Flynt. He was shot in front of a courthouse in GA. That looks like one.

2010-03-12 12:51:49 PM
Wasn't Tupac shot on the east coast the first time?

2010-03-12 12:53:14 PM
screw it. Prediction: Person is George Reeves, movie is Hollywoodland.

2010-03-12 12:53:23 PM
Larry Flynt -- in front of a courthouse

John Lennon -- The Dakota looked much better than this building.

This one's got me stumped. Knowing how sneaky The Smoking Gun is, I'll bet the person wasn't killed here, just shot. I think the key would be to search celebrity life story movies. (Alas, I have failed at that so far....)

2010-03-12 12:53:26 PM
It's not Lennon. It looks like New York, but I don't think it's a terribly bad section. Note the White man with the letterbag and goofy vest roaming freely.

From the looks of this place, it seems to me that there might be multiple acceptable answers to this question.

2010-03-12 12:54:53 PM
2pac possibly... not the shooting which killed him, but the shooting which he thinks BIG was responsible for, in the first floor of bad boys' studio.

In the middle of the city. It's not going to look like this.

Harvey Milk

2010-03-12 12:56:28 PM
Frank Serpico, I win.

2010-03-12 12:57:01 PM
Okay I'm gonna say it's Lennon.

Could easily be Boston too. In fact, that may be my cousin Vito walking down the street. I'd recognize those gay powder blue Puma's anywhere.

2010-03-12 12:58:17 PM
It's New York City. Can't tell what borough nor if the neighborhood's bad or good (since odds are the shooting happened years ago and neighborhoods change). It's not Biggie (shot in California), Tupac (shot in Vegas), nor Lennon (shot in front of the Dakota Building). Hmm...

2010-03-12 12:58:36 PM
Notice they say victim--not celebrity. I bet whoever was shot was not a celebrity. Maybe a criminal who then had a movie made about his life.
Possible mafia member or serial killer???

On preview, PYROY got it.

Bingo!

I have to say Pyroy's convinced me. That was fast.

He wins (new window)

Thegreaser: Wasn't Tupac shot on the east coast the first time?

Yea but that was indoors, I think where his recording studio was located. I had the suspicion back then that he was set up by one of his own people.

2010-03-12 01:02:05 PM
is this the building?

Looks like Brooklyn to me and I live in Brooklyn. That building looks familiar so it could be either Brooklyn or maybe the Bronx.

I know the Dakota and that is definitely not the Dakota.

I don't care if someone got it. I'm still going with Kennedy.

I don't think The Dakota is in a terribly bad section of the city either.

I didn't realize Serpico was a rapper. Cool!

2010-03-12 01:07:10 PM
because good is dumb: I want to say John Lennon too, but was there ever a Hollywood movie about Lennon?

That's not The Dakota building (just to make sure it wasn't, like, a back entrance, I spun around the block via Google maps).

2010-03-12 01:09:42 PM
Thirteen minutes, well played, PYROY.

2010-03-12 01:09:47 PM
not even sure why you guys are still playing. pyroy nailed it.

2010-03-12 01:10:21 PM
Bravo! I was not going that direction.... got the rapper idea stuck in my mind somehow....

2010-03-12 01:10:37 PM
PYROY - i must say, that's a nice photo you found of the location as well. kinda artsy.
