The Isaac Newton/Cat Flap story is in one of Douglas Adam's books, IIRC, as an homage to "something that seems so obvious now, but obviously was not then."

The sad thing is how much Dr. Seuss hated Lindburgh.

Just because Lucky Lindy was a Nazi is no reason to unleash the vitriol at that level. Sure, he was admitted to the Order of the German Eagle with a Commander Cross presented by Göring personally, but so what? Yeah he came over here and took up the banner of keeping America from intervening with the Nazis in the late 30s and early 40s, but that was a "please stay out" flag he was waving, not a "this is the Jews' fault" flag. Well okay he really did say it was the "aggression of the Jewish race" but for christ's sake, Seuss, is that a reason to crucify the man in cartoons?

Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: The Isaac Newton/Cat Flap story is in one of Douglas Adam's books, IIRC, as an homage to "something that seems so obvious now, but obviously was not then."

It's from "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency", which was DNA's masterpiece, and possibly the greatest piece of fiction written in a century.

I disagree.

I'd reserve that title for "Last Chance to See."

He invented the cat flap, not the doggie door.

He was also well into alchemy, something that all the textbooks forget to mention when talking about how much of a genius he was...

And Franz Kafka invented the hard hat when he worked for an insurance firm, according to some people.

Alchemy was the chemistry of it's day, as primitive and ultimately goal driven as it was. But at least it lead to the study of what things were made of and how it worked.

If I remember the interview he became friends with another american who also happened to be a prostitute. She needed someone to protect her from violent customers and deadbeats, so he offered his services. He would hang outside the apartment door making sure things were cool.

No love for Roald Dahl? The man was an RAF pilot, in MI-6, and also quite likely an ace with around 20 victories. And he wrote some insane kid's stories later.

FTA: "Every Saturday that you rocked out to that music while waving around your little plastic Sword of Omens, you've been rocking out to this dapper gentleman:"

FAIL!

Thundercats aired in syndication on weekdays, typically sandwiched between Transformers and GI Joe during the 3-5PM after school cartoon time slot. As an 80s latchkey kid, I knew this schedule well.

Unless some affiliates aired it on Saturday, it wasn't a Saturday morning cartoon like Kidd Video.

What pissed me off as a kid is that Jase and the Wheeled Warriors was always timed so that I'd miss the last five minutes because I needed to run for the bus.

Always got home in time for Transformers, though. Always.

What you're missing is how much damage Lindburgh did in the 30's by promoting the isolationist movement. Most people knew Henry Ford was a crack and wrote him off as such, but Lindburgh was a popular hero in an age that worshiped the ground they walked on.

Lindburgh sided with the Isolationists and a lot of people who didn't know any better sided with Lindburgh. As a result a lot of Jews (and Gentiles) had to die during a seven year war in Europe.

He gets honoured with every episode of Torchwood* - and a couple of Doctor Whos too.

*Despite Barrowman's Desperate Housewives contract, Torchwood goes back into production this fall.
