Article does not indicate how the animal died and therefore if said death was cruel, natural, unnatural, etc.

If this guy says nothing other than 'I want a lawyer' I would expect this to get dismissed - who is to say the guinea pig didn't die of natural cause and that he then decided to make it into a hat?

I like animals, a lot, but this is farking ludicrous.

I guess my Grandma just got damn lucky that she died before the authorities found out that she used to pull the heads off of her chickens, pluck their feathers, and then *gasp* EAT THEM!!

My grandparents also raised rabbits and we skinned and ate some of them as well. I even once gave a rabbit pelt, which I had skinned and cured myself, to one of my grade school teachers.

IMO it's really only "cruelty" if he skinned it alive.....or intentionally tortured it in some way prior to killing it humanely.

As long as you put the animal down as quickly and humanely as possible, you should be able to skin an animal and use the hide.

Not that I particularly WANT to kill my own cow to make a leather jacket, but if I did, why not? And besides, most pet stores sell feeder animals for reptiles anyway, like worms and mice, and sometimes even rabbits.

I don't know about North Virginia but in Chicago the church groups talk about books or go out for drinks after evening mass, they don't skin animals.

I don't know how all pet stores operate but my wife is a manager at one of the national chains. According to her if someone tells them they're going to buy a mouse for a snake to eat they'll refuse the sale.
