(Some Indie Douches) Fail Julian Casablancas says the songs on the new Strokes album are "way more collaborative." In other news, "collaborative" now means "similar sounding shiatfest"   (digitalspy.com) divider line 18

I dunno what the Strokes do (specifically) but I'm just dropping by to let the slow people know in advance that this is a troll headline, so cool your shiat before your rage sends you to the reply field.

also, claiming that someone has bad taste in music because they made fun of a band you like is lame, too.

I just don't see the appeal of The Strokes.

/listening to Arcade Fire's Neon Bible at the moment

I don't understand how anyone can translate the word collaborative to mean that everything will sound similar. Sounds to me more like they couldn't come up with their own original music and are using collaborations to fill spots on their album.

Either that, or the entire band will be responsible in the writing process.

Either way sucks, and I am a Strokes fan.

Hopefully this is true. They've each come out with solo albums that sound surprisingly different. I'd like a little sampling of each on this album.

Julian's solo was pretty experimental-- when it hit, it was great (The Tourist). When it missed, it missed big (Ludlow St.).

Fabrizio'salbum from side project, Little Joy, was the most enjoyable. Only one or two tracks that I skip over.

Albert's side project sounded like Strokes Lite. Not that it was bad, just not very different.

I thought the Strokes broke up? Or at least that is what I thought Julian said.

I usually say something to this effect in these threads. It's getting tiresome.

Anyways, I'm a Strokes fan (well, an Is This It and some of their other songs fan), but it's always been Julian's show. It'll be interesting to see what happens when they all have more input.

The English Major: I just don't see the appeal of The Strokes.

I was 15 when Is This It came out in 2001. In the years immediately preceding, popular music had been mired in the Limp Bizkits and boy bands of the world. And I'll admit to being into the former at that time, being the clueless young teenager I was. But then Is This It carved back a place for decent rock music, and the ensuing garage wave got me away the aforementioned crap and on to better (YMMV) stuff. And it still holds up for me. I play it all the time.

That and, you know, personal taste is personal.

This times many.

Oh look, another "Fail" headline without any substance to back up the use of it. Well done failmitter.

i'll just say it - his solo stuff (out of the blue, 11th dimension) are sweet. I really am enjoying them. also, i just discovered his family is loaded up the gills. lucky kid.

SlothB77: also, i just discovered his family is loaded up the gills. lucky kid.

All of their families are. From Wiki:

Lead singer-songwriter Julian Casablancas, guitarist Nick Valensi, and drummer Fab Moretti started playing together while attending Dwight School in Manhattan. Bassist Nikolai Fraiture had been friends with Casablancas and was attending the Lycée Français de New York. At age 13, Casablancas was sent to Le Rosey, a boarding school in Switzerland to resolve his drinking problems and improve his academic performance. In Switzerland, Casablancas met guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr.

Dwight School and Lycée Français = $$$

I guess that would explain their involvement with the Harvard Lampoon at an early stage in their band.

You just discovered that? It's been common knowledge since 2001. Casablanca's father ran a major modeling agency in NYC in in the 70's and 80's.

Look, how much money do I have to pay to get Fark without the troll headlines?

Failing that, how much do I have to pay to get someone to go over to subby's house and twat him over the face with a lawn chair?

+1 Subby.

Meh. They're certainly not the first rockers to grow up in a well-to-do milleu.

Has Mick Jagger ever had a word with them?
