Steal a car and keep it at your place? Even in the vicinity?

The real trick would be to take out a loan with the truck as collateral, that would show them some real smarts

What you do is find a random stranger and then go the test drives, make copies, and bring t
he car to the other person's house.

Perfect crime

A lock and found story.

Back in '94 I was shopping for my first brand new car, and one of the ones
I test drove was a Geo Metro. I went to the dealership with my mom, and
before I got the chance to look at the floor models a salesman came up and
greeted me.

"I think I'd like to look at a Metro."

"Sure thing," he ran to a desk, pulled out a key, and led my mom and me out
to a car waiting at the curb.

"Give it a spin and find me when you come back," he said, handing me the
key and opening the door for me.

My mother and I sat in the car and just looked at each other.

"Well, it looks like I got myself a car..." I said with a glint in my eye, and
my mother just smiled.

I did take it for a spin and came back, but had I wanted to I could have
driven the thing off and they probably wouldn't have missed it for a couple
of days.

I ended up buying a Saturn SL2 that lasted to a little over 120K

Currently have an '04 Matrix still going strong at more than 140K

How are they going to build a case against him though? The truck will have his prints but that's to be expected from his test drive. And 10 blocks? I mean I guess that's in the neighbourhood but...so are a lot of other people.

Unless they have good video of him taking it, or find the key on him, or he outs himself when they interview him (which I bet he does), then I don't see how they're going to pull this off.

So the secret to clever theft is to steal it the same day you had access to the key.

I always thought it'd be easy to leave a large trailer nearby with some of that radio blocking paint applied to the inside. Then just pack the cars into a shipping container and sell them overseas or maybe in Mexico.

I have almost the exact same story, except they also offered to let me take it home for the night.
I lived 45 minutes away in a different state.
They didn't even ask more my name.
When I told them the gas light was on they threw me a credit card and told me to fill it up.

You should have taken the CC and got rims, stereo, alarm, tint, etc installed, and then bought it for asking price. If they dont sell it to you then its not stealing. They kept the merch.

so if he had dropped it off at a chop shop he would have gotten away with it?
