3 chords, actually.

2010-03-11 07:48:54 PM
What's wrong with Green Day, subby?

2010-03-11 08:16:50 PM
I guess you'll start off as a regular band, and eventually unlock "Mega Douche Mode".

2010-03-11 08:17:50 PM
Why would 3 part harmony be part of the game when it's not anything that the band has ever done?

2010-03-11 08:23:08 PM
Funny...

(I made this same joke about "Rock Band Ramones. Yeah, pretty much the same thing.)

Heh, *snort*. Good one subby

Hey, man. I love that song Douche Mode does. Personal Jesus. Don't make of them.

"stupid" seems a bit harsh. Is subby bitter about Green Day for some reason? Yeah, most of their songs are really simple but I think the whole point is to have fun. Or did I get that wrong?

Seems like a really crappy band to follow the beatles

Aren't there like 2 or 3 guys who have 99% of the green links? And then we wonder why all the headlines sound the same?

CravenMorehead: Is subby bitter about Green Day for some reason? Yeah, most of their songs are really simple but I think the whole point is to have fun. Or did I get that wrong?

Something tells me subby doesn't play real guitar, and realize that while the hooks are fairly simple they do actually know how to play.

Dumb-Ass-Monkey: Why would 3 part harmony be part of the game when it's not anything that the band has ever done?

I can tell you haven't listened to much Green Day in the past ten years. They have a lot of backing vocals and vocal harmonies on their last few albums. Billy's voice is way higher in the mix usually, but the rest of the band sings too.

Yeah, considering the biggest mistake of the genre in the post-Guitar Hero II era has been song lists based on how the music sounds as opposed to how it plays.

2010-03-11 10:13:17 PM
I guess because it's simple it sucks? You try and play it as well as they do on a real guitar Subby. We can't all be Dream Theater.

Enough people to make a Rock Band featuring them a commercially viable venture. I'm sure 16 year old girls are the target audience for such a big-name video game though.

No matter how they play it,
it sounds good.

Deal with it.

American Idiot was a great rock album.
And some of us are nostalgic for our youths, or something.

Anyway, I bet the drum tracks in Green Day Rock Band are going to be hellacious. Trey seems to take a lot of inspiration from Keith Moon - i.e. go nucking futs on the kit.

Certainly be harder than the Beatles Rock Band drum tracks!

Um, their bassist is actually really farking good. Not a showoff masturbator, just really solid. Most of their basslines are much more complex than most other popular rock bands.

This does seem like an odd choice when there are much more diverse bands who would offer a bigger challenge, even in punk or "punk pop".

Where's my Rock Band:Queen? Or as said before Maiden?

I like Green Day, I'm pretty open to music, so it might be a rental or a cheap buy later on. But Basket Case as their "early days"? How bout something from their earlier albums? Hoping for One for the Razorbacks. Really hoping for Dominated Love Slave.

Their only really kinda crappy album was Warning. Their last couple have been pretty badass. And their early-mid 90's stuff makes me nostalgic as hell.

I do wish they'd quit the emo-look crap though.

Heh, you care entirely too much about this.
I like Green Day for what they are - catchy 3-minute Ramones-style songs - but I'm not sure I'd buy a whole game of nothing but their songs (unlike the Beatles, or Queen). What do you care if other people like a band? I really farking hate Disturbed, Limp Bizkit, and the other crap that came out in the late 90s/early 00s, but I don't go and threadshiat their fans.

Anyway, you go ahead and write a string of chart-topping songs and get back to us.

SacriliciousBeerSwiller: Their only really kinda crappy album was Warning.

Actually I'd disagree. Warning was a different style, but I really like some of the songs on it. A couple are kind of weak, but I thought that about the newest album too, although it's grown on me. But it really kind of showed some maturity after three albums of the same stuff over and over (well-done, mind you, but still, pretty similar). And I enjoyed the musical references they threw in, particularly the Kinks and Pet Clark.

They're all obviously fans of The Who. There's no way someone can write a three-chord song into a rock opera who isn't.

The haters won't get it for the next 20 years, but how many bands have written a rock opera in the 200x decade? How about how many wrote one that's about to be on Broadway. Their opinion doesn't matter for a commercially viable reason.

That album just never hooked me. Warning was a good song, but it was almost TOO tribute-ish. Misery was an interesting track. But really that album was all over the place.

To be honest their latest album is a bit hit and miss, too. But the strong tracks make up for it. The title track ("21st Century Breakdown") is one of my favorites of theirs.

As for the people ragging on the guitar work, they're stuck a decade ago. Still, Billie Joe Armstrong is the first to admit he's not that great a guitar player. Their older songs were carried instrumentally primarily by the bass lines and drums, but their newer ones make use of guitar work by their "4th" member.

They really should make that poor bastard an official member already. It's getting to be almost as bad as Ted Nugent having some guy hiding behind a speaker stack playing all his songs.

1. I'm 39 years old; I'm hardly emo. I do, however, look pretty good for my age, which is more than I can say for Green Day.

2. At least I'm not a wuss with an empty profile.

3. Ironic that you'd call me emo, when you're the one who considers the whiny emo vocals and Dashboard Confessional-style guitar work of Green Day so awesome.

OK.

Punk:

A rebellious, discordant sub-genre of rock music that ended in 1987.

Anything after that isn't punk, because it's not rebelling against the mainstream, radio-play music; It is the mainstram, radio-play music.

So folk and celt punk, which don't get radio play are still punk?

The Jasons have been considered members of the touring band for a while, but since they don't help write the albums or play on them it doesn't mean so much. Not to take anything away from guys who have toured with a band for near a decade, but they're still basically session musicians if they're coming in and learning the songs after the album's done.

This is like calling Morphine's bass player a simpleton because he only had two strings on his bass.

Make fun of Green Day, sure, but the creatorss of GUITAR HERO managed to make
I WANNA BE SEDATED somewhat challenging. But the Ramones were the Yardbirds
compared to Green Day.
