Some tattoos give you the superpower of never being hired again. It's sort of a double-edged sword.

Actually, I think you are in the majority, or at least the vocal minority here on Fark. Personally, I'm more attracted to people if they DO have tattoos. My wife is covered.

The difference between people who do and do not have tattoos? People with tattoos don't give a shiat if you don't have tattoos. It seems to me like people who have tattoos are far less judgemental about what someone does with their body or their lifestyle than those who don't.

I, for one, am appalled. But I can't act solely on anecdotal evidence. Ever heard of random drug testing? I support random tattoo searches.

I can't say I really care that much, seems like people who do have tats aren't really anyone I hang out with.

But every now and then I'll see someone with something a little more classy like a Celtic knot and I'm still "WTF?"

They just look ugly. Maybe because the tat is faded and the skin is stretched, I don't know.

I keep thinking that someday I'll see a tat (or might even want to get one) I really like that isn't just some clever sight gag and has both beauty and personal meaning, but it hasn't happened yet.

/Hope I don't sound like a total bummer.

Tattoos are a failure at self expression. They are reflective of our shallow culture and shallow behavior. The sentiment runs along the the lines of "Oh, I'll have someone draw a picture on my body and that will reflect my life experience. Therefore my life has validity."

Tattoos are cheap self indulgences to help people believe they are important or have had significant experiences. Mostly, they are expressions of a lack of confidence in one's own experiences if the personal history is so cheap that it is expressed in a drawing on the skin.

This is nothing new. It's simply the new manifestation of pathetic humanity.

Nah. It's true that there's a lot of ugly work done out there. I only go to artists that I trust to do good work, and I'm not ashamed of anything I have on me.

Aside from that, some of my best friends work at tattoo parlors and could blow away any stereotype people have about people with tattoos.

It sounds like you might be a little more open-minded than most, but remember what I was saying about how people with tattoos are less judgemental than those without? I think every Fark thread about tattoos pretty much supports my theory.

Well, just advice to you "young'ns" who might be considering getting a tattoo. Don't do it. I am at this moment looking at my "Harley-Davidson" tattoo on my forearm as I type. It looked OK when it was originally done. However...

Yeah, but for everyone of those out there there are 50 tattooed morans that are reenforcing the negative image.

I used to be in your camp (as in, anti-ink), and then one day I got inspired. I figured out exactly what I wanted, and exactly where I wanted it. Results are in my profile, and I can pretty much guarantee you've never seen a person with this tattoo.
