"It's a purpose network," said ConnectEDU President and CEO Craig Powell. "We leverage concepts of social networking, but for a defined purpose of education and career transitioning. This could not be replicated in a Facebook environment. It's tough to explain without seeing it."

Sounds like Fark.com

I am fairly sure that if we trimmed all the fat out of the governments spending like this crap the US could easily balance the budget in 4 years.

Maybe because they were too busy thinking of it instead of thinging it.

so in other words it's going to be like Facebook, only without the positive network effects that come from there actually being a lot of people on it.

good to see the government keeps spending, even though we're bleeding from all pours.

Oh so that's where my tax monies went this year, kick ass. Could you also create a search engine for michigan? Name ideas:

Miigle

Mihoo

or simply

Wespentthemoneyyougaveusonbeerandweedandcreatedthiscrappymichigansearchengine.c o m

make sure it's innovation-value-function-synergy driven, and is so complicated you can't even describe it we just have to see it. Thanks! Oh government, is there nothing you can't waste money on?

This. I was shocked when I found out how many people in office from the late 50s/60s/70s crowd were on facebook, mostly I guess to talk to their grandkids. Now I regularly get event invites to conferences, workshops, seminars, etc from all over the country.

Now, if only there was a site that had all sorts of interesting stories submitted by users and you could leave replies that range from the very trollish to stupid to freaking hilarious. Also, have it so that if you pay a small monthly fee, you got some extra special things to go along with the usage. And a squirrel with big nuts

And then spend the rest on hookers and blow? Seriously, they would have no idea what to do with a 1.14mil surplus...

Anything that even has the slightest potential to make FB go away sounds like a good thing to me. Doubt it will be whatever Michigan has cooked up, but maybe it'll be Google Buzz.

They really wanted the name to say A. Its from Michigan, B. Its smarter, more "brainy" than your average "face"book, and C. Just what kind of people use it.

So they went with "Michi-lobe"

lol, no. Goog's late entry into microblogging isn't going to make the entrenched social networks go anywhere. Especially considering how many people don't necessarily want their gmail address made public like that.

2010-03-11 04:09:39 PM
And maybe this is more proof that Michigan government is so corrupt now that they shouldn't get any Federal aid because it will only be diverted to the cronies of those in power ( moley moley moley!) and never reach the peopl to which it was intended.

Not that I'm a Keynesian or anything, but mainstream economic theory right now says that excessive government spending is preventing even harder times.

Well sure it is, that's understandable. But don't think there's not a lot of bs and graft twixt the cup and the lip. I have been personally involved with some of this bs trying to get a job recently. Let's just say that Gov. Moley's claims of new job development in MI are not really sincere.
