In 2008 the Canadian dollar was up around $1.10 US. This recent rise should surprise no one.

Forget that, they should do away with pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollar, and dollar coins, and issue them all as paper money.

Travelled to Texas a few years ago and had to mentally multiply prices by 1.5 to get the conversion rate back when it was $0.65. That stung. Never been that bad on later trips, but parity (more or less) will be nice.

The Aussie dollar has done really well in the last year against the US dollar. Last April 11th, you had to spend AU$1.54 to get US$1. Now it's only around AU$1.10.

It wouldn't surprise me if parity is acheived between the two in the near future. Here's something to consider: the Australian adult (21+) minimum wage for a full or part time worker who gets holiday, sick pay and other benefits, is $14.31 per hour. And summer's almost over Down Under. Looks like a lot of minimum wage Boguns could live like kings 'wintering' in California for a week or two.

US trade deficit.
