If you could just slow down to only printing it like crazy, that would be an improvement. The printed cash, you put in the system is nothing compared to the electronic cash continuously flooded into the system.

The new dollar coins are absolutely ridiculous for the basic fact that they are virtually the same size as quarters. They should be BIGGER. Just as the dime should be bigger than a nickel. Make the dollar coin bigger, put a cool picture on it, like an eagle taking a dump on Osama Bin Laden's face, and eliminate the paper dollar.

No more paper money for Canada, our money is going to be printed on plastic.

Makes sense since everyone pays with plastic now anyways.

A real pet peeve of mine is how people think that different monetary system's base units are somehow directly comparable.

That if a Canadian dollar is $1.01 US, it is stronger than the US $.
That if a Canadian dollar is $.99 US, it is weaker than the US $.

They are floating values, and "stronger" and "weaker" can only refer to current exchange rates versus past ones.

I don't see what's scary about this unless border cities are scared of nice Canadians spending even more money than they already do.

In 2008 the Canadian dollar was up around $1.10 US. This recent rise should surprise no one.

At least. I dunno why they thought making it a smidge bigger than the quarter was such a fantastic idea, and now they're going to be doing state park quarters? Who really wants to see a picture of a state park on a quarter? Not I. They should just go back to George on the front, and an eagle on the back.

Except , of course, for the fact that M3 is at the same level as Oct 2008.
But hey, don't let facts get in your way.

Forget that, they should do away with pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollar, and dollar coins, and issue them all as paper money.

They already did that in the 1800's. Now that would just be a big waste of paper.

As someone who is travelling to NYC for the Easter long weekend, I'm really getting a kick...

Travelled to Texas a few years ago and had to mentally multiply prices by 1.5 to get the conversion rate back when it was $0.65. That stung. Never been that bad on later trips, but parity (more or less) will be nice.

Well, I don't buy it. Canada is still on the housing speculation bubble and it has yet to pop there. It'll hit them just as badly as it did us.

http://www.housepriceindex.ca/Default.aspx

Look at Calgary's housing price graph and say that they haven't exited their bubble.

The Aussie dollar has done really well in the last year against the US dollar. Last April 11th, you had to spend AU$1.54 to get US$1. Now it's only around AU$1.10.

It wouldn't surprise me if parity is acheived between the two in the near future. Here's something to consider: the Australian adult (21+) minimum wage for a full or part time worker who gets holiday, sick pay and other benefits, is $14.31 per hour. And summer's almost over Down Under. Looks like a lot of minimum wage Boguns could live like kings 'wintering' in California for a week or two.

US trade deficit.

The Obvious tag is warming up in the bullpen; I don't see how this surprises anyone. We haven't exported as much as we import since the 60's, so we borrow money from the countries we import from.
