Why are the dumbest people teaching our kids?

Lesson learned. It's against the rules to have drugs in your hand for any reason. Always pass them mouth to mouth.

jehovahs witness protection: Why are the dumbest people teaching our kids?

Hey now. This isn't about the teachers. It's about the administration. So, a better (and more universal) question would be, why are the dumbest people running the schools which teach our kids? Seriously, I have never in all my travels and work at various schools or interacting with various schools around the world met a competent, sensible school administrator. The MOST sensible I've ever met are the ones that generally just sit and collect their pay and let the teachers do their jobs.

I_Am_Weasel: Common sense isn't.

Seriously.

Rachael Greer said it happened on Feb. 23 during fifth period gym class at River Valley Middle School when a girl walked into the locker room with a bag of pills.

Who hasn't walked into a middle school girls locker room with a bag of pills? Am I right?

he said she was very, very honest and he said he was sorry he had to do it but it was school policy,"

I'm sorry I have to sue the school district, the school board and you personally into poverty but IT'S MY POLICY!

Oh to be a tort lawyer in this day and age.

They aren't dumb. This is what happens when school admins talk to lawyers first instead of the parents. When everyone is afraid of lawsuits, no one wants to be in charge.

Like I say in every single one of these threads, the whole point of these policies is to make it difficult to sue them. When a teacher or administrator has no choice in a matter, it's hard to show they were negligent.

2010-03-11 09:27:06 AM
they should arrest the administrator next time he uses the bathroom for exposing himself and having his penis in his hand

Win: Thread over

When did "it's our policy" become a defense for these kinds of things, any way? No matter where you look these days, there's always some asshat defending an indefensible action by saying, "Don't blame me, it's our policy." WTF, man?

2010-03-11 09:35:32 AM
It was adderall, clearly this kid didn't want to do good in school.

2010-03-11 09:50:04 AM
yup. That is retarded.

2010-03-11 10:09:22 AM
That girl should anonymously sext a photo of herself to the school administrators and then report them to the local PD for possession of kiddie porn.

Use this as a life lesson. Never admit anything.

EvilEgg: Use this as a life lesson. Never admit anything.

Hehe...that's what I find so odd about these situations. These policies undermine their own intent. How can you expect kids to take authority and rules seriously when they're so capriciously and irrationally applied?

2010-03-11 10:26:37 AM
This is why we hired you. When it's time to make the tough decisions, the real ones, the ones that really will affect a child's future...we can't find you. Or you mutter something and look at your shoes. When the going gets tough, you refer people to the school system's lawyer. But by god, if there is a man in this room who will suspend the fark out of some kid for an asinine reason, it's you. I wish I were gay so I could fark you. That's how turned on I am right now. This is why we hired you.

That's what I'm thinking. I think zero-tolerance policies like this are idiotic and like Diogenes said, it makes kids stop taking the rules seriously. I think it also encourages rule-breaking (or whatever). But how did that zero-tolerance policy get into place? Was it because the school board/administration wanted more control or was it because of parents constantly blaming administrators and teachers and screaming of fairness when the school tried to discipline their kid for *actually* doing something wrong?

Third comment in TFA nails it:

Another example of how zero-tolerance is an excuse for petty bureaucrats to not have to think, and not have to take real responsibility for their decisions.

It's the American way: deny self-responsibility. Honestly, I'm farking sick and tired of that kind of attitude towards life. Not only does it make you look like a total dickwad, you're essentially dis-empowering yourself. It's a one-two punch.

I'm very tempted to homeschool my kid, and have him 'socialize' with other kids by sending him to daycare. Fortunately, right now, he SEEMS to be in a pretty damn good school.

The assistant principal also touched the drugs. This asshole should be suspended without pay. Zero tolerance means zero tolerance.

So... in effect... those who can't do... teach. And those who can't teach become school administrators?!

Does the teacher who confiscates the drugs get suspended as well?

2010-03-11 11:27:27 AM
I love that it's not like crack or pot either, but an ADHD drug, that's causing them all to freak out.

Gestahl ist gestahl has been around for awhile. How could you not see that?

Well, that's certainly sending the right message to the girl that refused. Morans. Friggin morans.

Exactly. I realized the superiority of the wall of denial technique early on. Give them nothing. If they want to fark with you, make them earn it.

Except it isn't.

If the admin did the right thing, and gave the girl an honor of some sort for her actions, he could have been fired.

The culprits here are the school board who made such a stupid rule in the first place.

Seriously, can I have some Adderall please? Last time I got a hold of some I was able to study for a final for thirty six hours straight and aced it.

I'd be less worried if it WAS pot.

Let this be a lesson kids. Always narc on your friends. Maybe you'll get a lighter punishment (from the administration).

Story time: Some of the kids in a class behind mine thought it would be fun to meet up at school, then spray paint/graffiti one of the buildings. The damage was obvious, but the perps were not (they were smart enough to keep it to themselves). The principal put the screws to a couple likely suspects. One of them confessed (but didn't rat out the others). Naturally, he got the full punishment while the rest got zilch. Conclusion: Everyone else is a douche.

2010-03-11 11:36:41 AM
It's crazy yes, but legally it can hold up.

A lawyer once told me that even if I am handed drugs that are concealed, and I don't know about it I can still be charged, and found guilty of a felony.

2010-03-11 11:36:51 AM
As someone with a bottle of Adderall in my desk drawer here at work, I'm getting a kick out of this...

(And Yeah, its a legal prescription...)

2010-03-11 11:36:55 AM
So what this girl just learned is that she may as well take the drug, because her NOT taking the drug resulted in the exact same punishment.
