That just reinforces my opinion that architechs are idiots and more interested in their drawings "looking good" than any kind of practical design. My wife's PEF deals with architects like this and has to argue with them constantly about building entrances, stairwell locations and utilities, not to mention them ignoring things like ground elevations.

No, I think this was a people did not want to shower in the large room with other naked guys.

The only people I remember who showered in high school were jocks. We didn't even have time to shower after gym, but these guys were cutting class and waving their dicks at each other (I'm not joking, one was famous for "the helicopter") in the showers after gym.

But I was really fat, and really sweaty, and really should have showered.

We were required to take showers from 6th grade on. If you skipped you got a 0 for the day, and had to make it up. Of course this was in the late 60's, and we all wore onions on our belts (which was the style at the time).

I remember when I was in high school they took all the doors off the bathroom stalls. Said it was to keep kids from smoking and wastin toilet paper. I knew some right was being violated but we didn't know wat to do about it.

My Dad is an architect and if a 15 yr old is smart enough to alter those drawings then I say keep the school the way it is.

Those blue prints are always confusing and the numbers and such.

Honestly, it's people taking showers. Bathrooms in other nations have a hell of a lot less privacy. They have public baths, for fark's sake. Contrary to what subby said, no one can watch. TFA says that the entrance has line of sight so it's possible to glimpse into the showers when the entrance opens. The horror! The mere incidental, fleeting gaze will traumatize the children and make a child molester of any passing adult foreverz!

Yeesh, the more Americans obsess over protecting their children from perverts, the more they look like the biggest bunch of repressed pedophiles in the world (and that includes Japan -- THAT Japan). "If I get off watching children taking showers, everyone must be a pedophile!" What, is everyone on the school board a pervert? That's a lot more disturbing than shower room design.

I'm reminded of a sculpture near Utsunomiya station in Japan (THAT Japan). It features a grown man, a grown woman, a teenage girl, a young boy and a toddler. Basically, a family of five representing the first five ages of Man. All nude. Yes, there's a statue of a nude teenage girl out there in public.

Everyone there just walks past it. No one really bothers to look at it. Over here, it'd be surrounded by PROTECT TEH CHILDRENZ harpies with Nancy Grace sobbing in public 24/7 until it's dynamited to the thunderous applause of helicopter parents. Because the sight of a nude teenage girl turns everyone into Pedobears, or something.

All of you guys talking about not taking showers just proves teenagers are just a filthy bunch of people anymore. No wonder staph and other infections appear to be increasing.

The architects had an opportunity to design a school with showers that have some semblance of privacy to them. That would probably alleviate one of the biggest concerns for the students.

I don't recall anyone not showering after gym class. Can't remember the teacher saying it was mandatory, but it just didn't occur to any of us to skip it and go through the rest of the day smelling bad.

I can honestly say I never saw anyone use the showers in HS after gym. Not once.

Way back in the olden days (1977) as a high school freshmen, we were required to take showers. There was a dude that would sit at the shower opening and check off names as we come out of the showers. Once Asian kid would go to the showers, run a lap around the show trying to get wet without stopping, all the while keeping his underwear on. I created a two line poem that some of us would chant while he was doing his lap:

Our laundry room (where we picked up our towels) was adjacent to the girls' locker room and there was a vent between them. Just turn out the lights so you couldn't be seen and stick your face to the grate and it was like a dream come true.
