Oh, I love this little tidbit: But other studies found that being punished for porn use might contribute to someone becoming a rapist, and not the porn use itself. Indeed, continues The Scientist, a repressive religious upbringing might be more of a factor in rape than porn

So, children raised in a fundie household are more likely to commit sex crimes than other people? We must put a stop to religion! Now! Before it's too late! WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!??

It depends on if its shame or guilt.

We're looking for shame, like the catholic girl shame that turns them into rabid sex starved sluts later in life.

This really isnt all that surprising. In the vast majority of cases rape is completely about control, not sex. Thus, it makes sense on two levels:

1) Those who were punished for looking at porn due to a religious background or whatever reason had control over their sexual expression reduced or taken away. Voila: their desire to exact control over themselves and others manifests itself in rape.

2) Porn is the safety valve because the individual possesses total control over the porn they view. Also, they possess most of the control over where and when they view it. Obviously societal norms preclude someone from knocking one out in the library, but you get the point.

Yup.

Regarding the link: old news is old news. These studies have been coming out for the past ten years or so and correlate to a drop in rape/reported rape cases.

What I find interesting is that while the number of rape/reported rape cases keeps going down, the groups with vested interests in keeping those numbers high refuse to admit this is happening.

Two weeks ago a local TV station was running report from a local college campus with the rape crisis spokewoman saying that numbers are down because girls 'don't know how to report being raped', 'for every reported rape 9 more occur' and this one
'The FBI isn't telling the truth about the number of rapes that occur'.

This is all bullshiate.

College women have it pounded/drilled (sorry) into them how to stop rapes/report rapes, etc. and college men have been indoctrinated into how truly bad rape is/no means 'no', etc.

More simply, its proven wrong because the UCR which measures crimes reported to the police can be compared to the NCVS which surveys people about whether or not they've been the victim of a crime which has strongly shown that the decrease in crime has been an actually decrease not simply a change in reporting.

The UCR and NCVS have their faults but they address this very claim.

I was riding the CalTran a couple of years ago, and this older hispanic dude gets on and asks if I mind in heavily accented english. Thinking he somehow didn't understand racial equality, I assured him that I didn't mind and that he was more than welcome to take the seat across the aisle. After a few minutes he whips it out and just starts going to town right there no porn, jacket over his lap or anything. I quickly head to the quiet car. So not everyone follows those norms.

/cool story bro.

... a repressive religious upbringing might be more of a factor in rape than porn...

Surprise, surprise. And as someone who spends a good bit of my free time fapping I can truly say that unlike some "family values" oriented people I have absolutely no desire to fondle young boys. Funny how that works out.

Sexual repression: "This is taboo therefore I must try it!"

Meanwhile the cultures that run around naked have very little of these kinds of issues. It's all a classic example of people wanting something because they have been told they can't have it.

First, let it be known that I like porn. So does my wife. That being said, this study is crap. What was the "control" group to compare to one group of criminals? ANOTHER GROUP OF CRIMINALS!!!

So what if the "test" group was rapists? It doesn't prove that pornography doesn't lead to misogyny, it only proves that non-rapist criminals consume more porn than do rapists--convicts in general are not known for their pro-women social attitudes. Where is the true control, the non-criminal group? What is that group's porn consumption? Once we have those numbers, then we can really talk about social effects of porn vs. criminality.

Something tells me you read FTA, but did not understand it.

The particular study in question was not evaluating misogyny.

However, there are other studies that indicate it does not lead to misogyny.

/return to your conservative religious rape training camp, fiend!
