On the one hand, they're advertising that they're having a WTC survivor as a guest speaker.

On the other... yeah, somebody should have really looked at that and realized, "You know, maybe this is a bad idea."

FTFA:

Sandra Morin, an NDP MLA, says combining the burning towers with the mention of the pig roast is problematic.

"I have a number of family members who are police officers, and there's colloquialisms that are used to describe police officers," Morin said Wednesday. "Unfortunately the bad taste of using the superimposition of the words 'pig roast' on the burning flames of the building is ... certainly something that I would not have allowed to proceed if it was my fundraiser."

THAT'S why you're offended? Because of the use of the word "pig" and its derogatory meaning? Not the picture? Note how she refers to the structure on fire as "the building."

*facepalm*

I figured that putting 4chan on Jeopardy would lead to unintended and hilarious consequences, but I didn't think it would happen this quickly.

That's kind of the point. A lot of policemen died at the WTC - thus the "pig roast" combined with 9/11 imagery.

At any rate, it is hard to fathom how anyone could make that flyer and not immediately realize that it was a bad idea. Even if they were dumb enough to not be able to put their finger on it, you'd think there'd be a nagging *something* prompting them to scrap the thing.

Listen, I am not saying I wanted the World Trade Centers to have been attacked in order to use the smoldering ruins and a few mesquite logs for a roast, but if they had been used to roast pig maybe September 11th never would have happened.

Sorta OT - Does that mean he was in the tower when it came down? I never actually heard it clearly said whether or not survivors were found in the tower debris after the collapse? Can anyone confirm for me if survivors were found in the debris?

Seriously I think he has the right much like blacks can say the N-word.

The crews who went they lost co-workers and in that line of work your co-workers are your brothers or sisters.

Sure they enjoyed what a year of, yippee we love you - you are a hero.

But in reality these guys are still suffering a lot.

The PTSD destroyed so many of their lives. The public decided what their sacrifices were worth not them. NY is lucky all their firefighters did nto up and quit.

Sure what they did was their job but NO ONE signs up for the carnage of 911. Assholes that had no one lost claim PTSD have support groups and shiat.

I say If this asshole wants to put a ugly and uncomfortable picture of the towers burning he more then earned his freedom of press to do so.

So STFU if you don't like it - close your browser tab or toss your paper.

Yes, a few survivors were found in the debris. Less than a dozen, IIRC.

The organizers put the flyer together, not the 9/11 firefighter. So he's not the one who's clueless, the organizers are. That's what makes this so stupid.

Comprehension. Read for it.

HA - The MLA is from from Martensville, which I think is the Cree word for 'farks their younger siblings.'

This 'Saskatchewan Party' is nothing more than the relabeld remnants of Premier Grant Devine's devastated and incarcerated Prog Con party.

Space given to telling the story of a firefighter who survived the incident pictured on said poster: Eight lines.

"Pig roast": Two words in a normal typeface.

This is great, a poster that is so "offensive" nobody knows what exactly to be offended by. And what they finally glom onto is a part that almost nobody sees, that causes nothing more than a smirk when it is revealed.

Messed up world, show a picture of the two towers and everyone starts scouring it looking for ways to be offended. Lets just totally ignore the paragraph about a person surviving inside these buildings though, although I'm sure we can eventually get there it's hard to be offended by the idea of a survivor.

It would be great if there were some really uninteresting uncharismatic survivor touring the country.

"I was in the building, an alarm went off so I left the building. Can I have my money now?"

"But how did it feel?"

"I dunno, like whatever. I guess. Do you pay cash or check?"

/once again shuffling away slowly shaking my head at a world gone stupid as hell

This 100%. This has just as much merit as that DYNGR license plate story where that black chick went ape shiat because "it meant die n*gger."

But looking at who's complaining:

Saskatchewan's opposition New Democratic Party is slamming an advertisement ... for Saskatchewan Party member of the legislature and provincial Environment Minister Nancy Heppner.

Just some whiny-ass-biatches looking for something to complain about.

According to the text on the flyer (yes I actually read it), he was "trapped in a stairwell between the 6th and 7th floors" and "buried in the rubble for four hours".

Probably the same thing it says about me.

On the other hand: Maybe it's a subtle jab at the Muslim faith, which proscribes pork?

Hey, no problem. We'll just recall our troops from Afghanistan (you remember Afghanistan right? Where the real "war on terror" is) and your farking country can get bogged down alone in unwinnable situations in two countries. Have fun.

A group of firefighters survived in a stairwell near the bottom of the building. There were a couple TV documentaries about them.

It was interesting watching the lead firefighter involved talk about it. He talked about keeping his guys together, then how everything came crashing down. He heard something on the radio about people at Tower 1. The response on the radio was "Where's Tower 1?" He said he laughed and thought, "Rookie. Doesn't even know where Tower 1 is."

He said some of the dust cleared around him and he looked up, seeing sky where there used to be about 110 stories of Tower 1.

Being from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan(and cree), let me just say:

1. The Sask Party MLA has shown us that they are out of touch with not only their constituents, but with reality as well, it seems.
2. Nobody goes to Martensville anyway.
3. Martensville: from the Cree phrase "Farks their older cousin"
